  • anti siphon fill

A fellow T Bird owner here in Prescott is asking if anybody knows if the 02-05 Birds have an anti siphon fill configuration....says the Ford dealer doesn't know and he can't find info anywhere. I would guess he is talking about an elbow joint. I sure don't know. Does anybody?

I think most newer vehicles have it.If you stick a plastic tube down the tank fill you will find you can't do it.

      Re: anti siphon fill

      Hi there,

What I did find yesterday and I feel stupid about this. There must be some kind of overflow to stop gas shooting out the top. Usually, when I fill up, I wait for the pump to kick itself off then I press again, real gentle to top it up. I know that the fuel is pumped in at such a rate that it usually froths up and it cuts off before it is actually full.

Anyway, yesterday I did this and it was trickling in nice and slow when I started smelling gas really strong. I looked down and there was a big puddle on the floor. It was obviously full but coming out somewhere below the top of the filler. Anyone else noticed this?

So, I put out my cigarette really carefully...... just joking there, - don't even smoke. I ended up paying for a pint or so that ended up on the ground. I'll be more careful in future.

      Gordon.

        Gordon,

Happened to me a couple of times as well. Over-filled the tank, and smelled gas. When I looked under the car, there was a puddle of it just under it. Don't know where it comes out at, but it didn't seem to come out of the top itself.

          Re: anti siphon fill

All new cars have the no overfill feature....the reason the pumps all have the warning to not top off is that the environmental feature preventing fumes escaping gets blocked and there is an overflow feature to protect it. I guess the same might be the case with the non syphon feature....seems reasonable.

Next time you fill-up look on the side of the fill tube .You will see a hole this is were the gas on the floor comes from. It's an overflow so the gas doesn't flow down the side of the car or spit back on you. When the pump shuts off it's full the little bit you get in is not worth getting your shoes smelling with gas.I know don't ask how.
