Re: Engine light on dash-2005 T-Bird
Most common reasons for check engine light:
1. loose gas cap.
2. oxygen sensor going bad. I believe V8s have 4 sensors. The sensors that are "upstream" are usually the ones that go bad. Upstream means to the front of the catalytic convertor(s).
Try local auto parts store; they should be able to pull the codes for free. Take code #s to service mgr at Ford dealership or an indy shop (with all data). If you need to start throwing parts at it, start with new O2 sensors. I suspect it does not involve cops unless the car is bucking for you.

Re: Engine light on dash-2005 T-Bird
My advice is if the car is still under warranty, take it to another dealer. There is no excuse for a Ford dealer no being able to correct this problem. I would also report this to Ford. Leroy

Re: Engine light on dash-2005 T-Bird
If the engine light is coming on then Ford should be able to pull a code on it, and there is no excuse for Ford not diagnosing the problem. Next time the light comes on take your car to a different dealership, they can pull up all the previous history on the car as long as the service was done at a Ford dealership.
There has to be more to this story, tell us if the car is exibiting any problems. Misfires, missing, vibrating, losing power, struggling to climb a hill, any of those symptoms?

Re: Engine light on dash-2005 T-Bird
Thanx to everyone who respoonded to my quest. I complained to ford customer service who said the dealership would call me & I never was called except my discussions with the service manager who serviced the car all along. I'm less concerned due to discovering that what ever is wrong concerns the emissions system & not a major engine failure. They've changed 1 sensor & checked the others I believe. I plan to go to another dealership at this point. The car runs perfectly & has done so all along.Last edited by irvjk; Mar 20, 2009, 03:32 PM.

Re: Engine light on dash-2005 T-Bird
I have an 03 Tbird andthe check engine light came on. Had frind of mine who owens a shop pulled the code,O2 sensor bad. He cleared the code and told for me to watch what brand of gas I used. These cars do not like alcohol blended gas and that would give an false O2 sensor code. So far no check engine light.

Re: Engine light on dash-2005 T-Bird
Is the check engine light still on when you take it to the Dealer? If not, stop by the Dealer when the light is on and don't shut off the engine so the light stays on. There are active faults and not active faults. If they can catch it while the light is illuminated they will capture the active fault.02 Bird yelo/yelo full accent

Re: Engine light on dash-2005 T-Bird
I was told something almost similar about the 10% enthoal gas that we now have here in eastern Washington St. My dealer suggested that I add Chevron's Tech., one bottle every 3-4000 miles or so to help keep the whole fuel system cleaned out.
I've been following this suggestion and have not had anymore 'check engine' light sightings for 2 yrs.Mike
