I never really spoke with anyone in person. Everything was done by e-mails...What I suggest you to do is to wait until you see a kit you really like ''in person'' which should help you make a decision before ordering...You can see some kits installed every now and then on some 'Birds at car shows and talk with the owner as to which color it is and also where he bought it.

Leroy, I did not buy my Thunderbird as an investment but rather a ''toy', to enjoy and I don't consider it a classic by any means. And even if it was a classic, I wouldn't refrain to ''tweak it'' like I feel like doing with it... As for ''rubbing anyone the wrong way'', don't worry, there is no offense taken at all!

I've had a Titanium Burl dash kit in my car for several years now, and it still looks like new. Other than other Tbird owners, everyone who has seen my dash kit has assumed it's stock. I definitely bought my car to enjoy as I wish today.

No "wood" look for me. Just seems to go against the original design of the 1955-57 Birds, and aren't the 2002-05s supposed to mimic the designs of those cars in a modern way? There was not a hint of wood in the early birds. As far as having an effect on the resale value (if you care), it will if you cannot get the stuff off without damaging the original plastic center stack. I've said it before, but the only covering I like is the sand colored one on the retro birds with the sand package and the kit offered by PowerSports with the original Ford material with the factory patterns. I know it's your car and you can do what pleases you, but I feel placing any wood dash kits in a retro bird is like me covering the wood in a my Jag with a aluminum looking kit. But that is my opinion for what it is worth.

Now if Ford had used the dash from the XK8 instead of the Lincoln we would all be happy and there "wood" be no dash kits.

                          Re: 02 dash kits

I have an '02 with Urban Metal on the center console and it matches the factory aluminum trim almost 100%. I love it and don't care about resale value; I bought the car for me and to enjoy it as I see fit (besides I plan to be buried in the car).

PS - I had to replace the radio and when I did that, I was able to purchase a portion of the trim kit and replaced the applique over the new radio.

PSS - I've asked Ray & Debbie to join us at Choo-Choo Thunder this fall and hope they'll take me up on it.

Yeah Ray, you need to showcase your new mods at a TBN event.

While I am a firm believer in the have it your way mentality, I don't think I would have thought much of the wood accent trim UNTIL I saw Bronzebird's photos under the "Armrest Accent" Thread. In his photos, it gives the T-bird a hint of a British Sports Car appeal from the 1970's.

It always surprises me that least one seller on e-bay will list aftermarket T-bird wood accent trim, but show a stock photo of a different vehicle's dash, instead of taking time to show you what it would actually look like in the T-Bird.

There are only 8 of us who are interested in wood dash kits so why would a retailer bother with us..and incidently they don't ---- except for our Tbird concepts friend
