  • Any way to tell by VIN about hardtop color?

    Hi all,

Hope this isn't a silly question, but I was wondering if there is any way to tell by a T-bird's VIN if a) it originally came with a hardstop, and b) if so, what color the hard top was?

I'm assuming not, but thought I would ask anyway. The reason is one has surfaced for sale but this car and hard top color combo, if authentic, is pretty rare. So I'm wondering if there's a way to determine if it's an original top that came with the car. Would it possibly be on the original bill of sale somewhere?

    Thanks!

not by anything on the car itself. Only shows up on original paperwork such as the window sticker or order sheets.
Limited Edition databases for 007 msg..#26 , PCR sticky, and Cashmere msg.#64

Thanks for the quick response, I figured that was probably the case. I'm hoping the owner has the original papers.

Color combos that were available from the factory were just a few compared to what might be out there today, with lots of owners having more than one top. Leroy

              Pat,

One of these days, you're gonna find that perfect T-Bird. Glad to see you haven't given up on the search. How's the Cadillac doing?

James, Miss '63 is doing fine, thanks for thinking of her :) We put her in storage for the winter, but she'll be trotted out in her full-finned splendor once the weather gets warmer.

As for the perfect T, we may be very close even as I type this...DH is currently up in the air flying cross-country to possibly make a deal. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I should know something this afternoon. To quote the great Tom Petty, "The waiting is the hardest part!"

How exciting for you, I hope it all works out. LOVE that Tom Petty song, one of my favorites. I have to say I enjoyed the searching and the waiting, after doing it for so long, as much as I love my T-Bird, I missed the search! There is a lady at work who has been considering a T-Bird, can't wait for her to decide for sure so I can help with the search. Kind of like a scavenger hunt, so much fun!
