Replace side view mirror - turn signals maybe?

my driver's side view mirror has several ugly scratches in the glass and I would like to replace it. It works fine, but I see the damage all the time and it really bugs me. I found a TBN link that said the replacement mirror snaps on, but I can't find anything on removing the old mirror. I'm reluctant to try prying it off because I know it's driven by plastic gears. Can someone give me some directions and maybe a diagram please? Also, I would like to know if anyone has done the Turn Signal Mirror mod and can tell me how difficult is was.

Tom i sent you a pm and a diagram all together. Sorry but i never have attempted to take one apart. I just bought replacements.
