  • Hard Tonneau - What To Do?

I am going to order a hard tonneau for my black bird. I just can't decide which style. I thought a poll would be in order to solicit the opinions of T-birds world wide.

'Original' round has the advantage of more closely following the body style of the T-bird but lets more wind in the cabin.

The 'Retro' square mimics the hood scoop design (IMO) and keeps the wind down.

They both look good to me so I just can't decide, I've been back and forth about 10 times.

Photos are on the T-Bird Roadster website, among others.

I found a previous poll by YLO BRD here:
    http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...highlight=poll

Apparently there was no concensus here either. I don't know what the 'Flat' style is?

So, no poll. Just opinions seem to be in order.

There are several "flat" styles out there - they have no hump behind the headrests.

As for the poll, you can start a poll anytime - as long as you are the starter of the thread so you can still add a poll to this thread. You will find it under thread tools I think since you started this thread. If not there, then do an advanced edit of your first message.

one thing about polls - once you have started one, you can not edit it without admin help so get it right the first time or you'll have to start a new thread.

I think the consensus was that they all appeal to different people for different reasons. Get whatever you like best. I haven't heard anything bad about any of them - I believe they are all quality products.

With that said, I'm partial to the retro tonneau that Gary Kimmel (luvbird) sells. Very well made, stores easily in trunk and installs quickly without tools or without scuffing the paint.

The flat style is here: http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...1&d=1128052959

Do you know the difference between education and experience?
Education is when you read the fine print; experience is what you get when you don't.

I agree. It's your car. You are the one you have to keep happy with your purchase. I also don't think the style of these have anything to do with the airflow in the cabin. I had two different kinds on mine and it did not make a bit of difference.

Bill Brown (RetiredBirdMan) from our Thunderbird club here in Las Vegas has one of the flat style for his MSG 03 Thunderbird. Here's a photo he had in his gallery. Unfortunately the photo doesn't do it justice. The flat tonneau looks so clean like it was a part of the car and not some add-on.

I purchased a tonneau from Gary Kimmel. He made fast delivery and it is well made. I bought the retro style. It's in the paint shop now so it will match my color car. The one he sent was black and really didn't need to be painted. I did post photos in another thread a while back.

I'm going to Gary as well, especially after seeing your post. Best part is he's only a few hours away so I can cruise to get them. Just don't know which to order, but I'm leaning to the retro style. It's irratating because I usually have no trouble deciding anything.

I also am happy with my Kimmel tonneau. You can find three pictures at this link: http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...kimmel+tonneau
