One of our Members of the Las Vegas Thunderbirds did a Mod to his car about a month ago to carry a full sized wire wheel spare wheel & tire. I've waited as I thought he would post pictures, but he hasn't, so I will. He removed the carpeted fiberboard floor and had a piece of smoked plexiglass cut to shape. Set in his spare wheel & tire and laid down the plexiglass. He put a Ford oval decal at the farthest point forwad on the plexiglass. The wheel & tire & battery are all beautifully visable. I have 3 pictures as it was impossible to get a shot without glare in the parking lot we were in.

Re: Full Sized Spare
That just screams cool!
Like Dot said, the opening is big enough. The problem comes with the recessed shape of the factory trunk floor that makes for a little more trunk space. There was a similar post some while back, where a cut piece of plywood covered with the original type gray material was used to allow a full size spare to be installed.

Re: Full Sized Spare
OHHHH I do like this MOD. I hate the small spare tires. I wonder if the 2 Pc Hard tonneau would fit better also or would I loose space ?1 Of 1938 Made

Re: Full Sized Spare
TO all TBN members I replaced my donut with full sized tire and matching rim. Had to reposition Jack and without changing trunk tire cover, it sticks up about 1 1/2 inches and does not make a clean flat floor. This new way to do it seems great. However I have had this spare in the trunk since 2/03 when I got the Bird and have never needed the spare and wonder if it was worth the cost. I do have the security that I do have a "regular tire" if and when I need it.
On my 2005, I just left the donut in and we use that for more space needed travel.
Thanks
Dennis
