It is a vibration dampener. Many Ford exhausts have these. Now knowing that it is a vibration dampener and knowing exactly what it does is two very different things.

Why it obviously dampens vibration. Now you know everything! It does seem as though you could just shove a garden hose under the car and wet it down good so you wouldn't have to worry about dampening it, doesn't it?

A bit off-topic, but I'm curious why the old exhaust was cutoff just behind the mufflers. When I installed the Borlas on my '02, the stock exhaust came off very easily in one piece. If it ever becomes necessary to reinstall the stock system (e.g. if the emission laws change), the old ones will just bolt back on.

Larry, you're got 2 different mods in this thread - mine, a straight remove the stock and replace with Borla, and Leroy's photo of the resonators he removed.
