  • New here: WTB 2005 Cashmere or 2004 PCR - Which one?

    Hello All,

I am new here and have been eying the T-Birds since their intro in 2002. Each year coming closer to buying one. Well I have made up my mind, I want one and don't want to wait any longer. I have narrowed it down to two options and am having a very hard time deciding which to go with. That's aside from needing to locate the right one after making up my mind.

The choices are as per the title.

    Option one
    2004 PCR edition

    Option two
    2005 Cashmere edition

I have never seen either color in person as I live in Montreal, Canada and these cars a already rare in any color choice here.

Any feed back or advice would be welcomed.

My criteria will be a 100% original factory car. Paint needs to be (no accidents) void of defects or dents. The vehicle needs to have low miles (less than 30K but preferring less than 15K). I also prefer a one owner or two owner car and needs to have been pampered with records for services. It should come with all accessories and I would love to have the window sticker and or original bill of sale but that's not a requirement.

The price, well thats to be considered dependent on the vehicle and its location. I originally wanted only a 2005 model year and was considering either the Cashmere or Bronze but since recently learning about the existence of the PCR model of 2004 I am now at this point and considering these two. The one thing that concerns me about the PCR model is how the swede fabric would stand the test of time since its probably hard to clean.

So which should it be? 2005 Cashmere or 2004 PCR. Or should I just consider the best example/price I find in place of preference.

    Thanks in advance,

    Max

I'd go with THUNDERBIRD BLUE not only because it is the prettiest, but it's the fastest!

On a more serious note Max, choose what makes you happy. You will get 1,000 different answers here because we all have our own favorites and each owners criteria when they bought was different. In the long run you will be the one who has to live with the color choice, so get what you want, there is not an ugly color in the bunch.
There are many low mileage Thunderbirds out there, find the best price, if possible look for a car still under an extended warranty, and make sure it has a hard top included in the deal.
Check out Dot's site, www.portholeauthority.com and find out all you want to know about the retro Thunderbirds. Familiarize yourself with what options were offered with each year car and see all the different colors, all the answers to your questions can be found either here using the search menu or Dot's site.
    Good luck to you!

I would go with the Cashmere, but I think I'm a little biased! Like Julie said, check out Dot's site for more info. She has a ton of excellent pictures of the cashmere so you can really check out the color, etc. Personally, I love the color because it's got a really heavy metallic flake in it, which makes the color look different depending on where you park it, what kind of lighting there is, etc. Never boring (not that any other Thunderbirds ARE boring)!!

Welcome to TBN Max. It sounds as if you've already gathered a good amount of information about each car to help with your decision. If you have an opportunity to see the cars in person, you may find yourself leaning more towards one. The PCR's color looks different depending on it's surroundings and light, so it can be difficult to capture the true color in a picture. Both cars have a beautiful metallic finish. As for the upholstery in the PCR, I keep a clean white towel on the driver's seat most of the time and have had no problems. If you have any questions specific to either car, I think you'll find a number of owners here who will be happy to give you answers.

        Good luck with your search.

        Chuck

Welcome abourd Max. Why don't you come out to Ottawa on May 9th and see all the retro Birds and talk with the owners for some extra insight. You can read up on the event on the event list . If you wish, I can bring along a 2005 (and others) brochures so you can look at them as well. (If you havent bought one by that time, that is).

If I had to buy another Bird and had only the PCR or Cashmere from which to choose, I'd go with the PCR. Both colors are beautiful, but I give a slight edge to the PCR. I like the chrome grill, the Cashmere's is painted the same as the body color. I like the lighter color hardtop with the PCR, I prefer the two-tone retro look of a lighter hardtop against a darker body. Both have light-colored interiors and difficult-to-keep-clean light-colored softtops. Both stock wheels are similar.

But best of all, you can't go wrong with either. That's my $0.02.

Hi Max, welcome to TBN. Both options you are looking for are great. No matter what color you choose, you will love it anyway.

But deep down you know Evening Black is the best one to pick

be prepared to pay a slight premium for both being they are special editions.....but for me the PCR that i looked at was beautiful...the contrasting colors of the body and hard top looks great....if i would have seen a PCR in person I may not own a black one now.

looked at the link from NRALIFER..on the PCR on autotrader.com...if it is as clean as it looks...the asking price at 21.5k seems realy good....since the one i looked at in prosser wa. was asking 30k....told him i thought that was high since i bought my 04 in july for 23k..including tax...said there was some play room, but cant belive theres 9 grand

Welcome Max. The choice between a Cashmere and a PCR will be a difficult one as both are very nice colors.

The one thing that I considered when I purchased my MSB a year ago was the warranty I could get. I don't think you can get a warranty on a PCR but there may be options available I'm not aware of. You may be able to get an extended warranty on a Cashmere if you purchase from a Ford dealer and he will Ford Certify the car for you. If it is Certified then you can purchase a Ford Extended Warranty.

                              Good luck.
