  • Remember the 1958 Macabre Mobile?

Found these on the net and just thought I would share. The video clip is a Featurette of the 1958 Thunderbird for her 1988 movie "Elvia, Mistress of the Dark". I like the grill.

I think I might have some of the Johhny Lightning versions of this car still available (without Elvira, unfortunately) in 1:64th scale if anyone is interested.

Here's another early TBird out there you may or may not be familiar with:

One of the 5 Batmobiles made for the old Adam West TV show and movie(#5) was a 1958 Thunderbird.

The first one, designed and built by George Barris, was built from the 1955 Lincoln Futura Concept Car (http://www.1966batmobile.com/), and 3 others were made from Ford Galaxies. The 5th one was made outside of Barris' shop, by an independant builder, but eventually made its way into the Barris collection and toured extensively on the car show circuit. Could be, I was just going by the video clip. The video said that they used a 1958 hardtop. I was checking pictures on the net and don't see hardly any difference in the 58 and 59. They offered leather seats in 59. I guess there is but the 58, 59 and 60 all used the same body style "type 63A" for the hard tops.

The car they used in the movie could of had parts from all 3 years.....lol

Yes, you are absolutely correct Steve, all threee years used the same body style and unless you own one or are really involved with those years, it is hard to tell the difference. When it comes to movies, they will use almost anything and do not seem to know what is "period" correct. I have a '58 and will send you a picture if you wish.

The '60 convertible is one of my favourite Birds. Almost bought one a few years ago. Missed the cash to take the final step

Re: Remember the 1958 Macabre Mobile?

Hi, I downloaded and just watched "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark" movie and noticed that they used 2 different plates for the car. KICKASS and 2MACABRE. I checked and found out it was one of many blunders in the movie.

Thanks for the great pictures Martin. The 58 must be a great rush driving.
