  • Stumped in Seattle

I have an 02 TBird. On top of the engine is a plastic cover that says Thunderbird and V8. It attaches in 3 places. In the upper right corner there is a hole for a plastic anchor, just like the one below it, but there is only a hole with nothing underneath to attach it to. The Ford dealership is also stumped. The plastic cover needs to be attached there as it is very loose in that corner. Any suggestions?

If George were home right now, I'd post a picture with the cover off so you could see what might be missing. I'm too chicken to take the cover off myself for fear of breaking one of those push pins, but at least I did notice that George or someone put the wrong pin in one of those holes - will have to get on George about that.

George came home early. Have loaded a picture. It's the bracket that you see in the center of the picture. Appears to be it's only purpose is to hold that cover in place.

Thanks Dot- I have one of those brackets on the lower right. Is there supposed to be another bracket on the upper right? There is a hole through the plastic cover but no bracket. Tim

          Re: Stumped in Seattle

I'll get another picture later tonight. guess I should have taken a few more when the cover was off.

I did take a picture of the cover's underside and labeled it. You probably already know what it looks like but other's don't.

Got the cover off and added details to the engine photo

Bracket D, as I've labeled, I think is the one you say is missing?

It appears to hold more than just the cover but also has a hose clamp attached to it and appears to channel that same hose. I'm going to look it up in the manual so you can see how large the clamp is.

Here's a close up of the backside of the bracket. You can see where the hose clamp is anchored on the backside.
2nd picture is what the bracket looks like as found in the manual.

By the way, that bracket picture from the book was in the fuel system section. They called it the "Engine Cover Appearance Bracket"

Thanks Dot- Very helpful info. I think I should order the missing bracket and try to install it myself. Can't be too difficult.. You would think! Tim

I was thinking the same thing Julie.
I'm glad you said it 1st.
Looks like someone has some cleaning to do.

umm - that's what is under the cover - it does look like it needs a good cleaning there (not George's job)
