I believe it was a $2500.00 option, but when they were available as a replacement through Ford dealers I heard that price more than doubled? I don't think you can get a new one anywhere anymore. But there always seems to be one or two on Ebay from cars that were wrecked or stolen and the hard top was not on the car. I found one for $400.00. Leroy
The option cost that but as in all cars, the sum of the parts far exceeds the value of the whole. I think some car magazine went to the trouble of adding all the parts that make up a typical car (I think they chose a Dodge) and while the car sold for less than $4,000 (this was some time ago), all the parts needed to make up the whole car cost more than $25,000.
The top, if ordered separately, even at the time we bought our cars would have cost every bit of $4,000 or more. Right now, if you tried to buy the top the shell alone, with no trim or glass lists for more than $5,000. $5,242.58 to be exact.
In 04 if you wanted a Hard Top on a Deluxe Model it was $2500.00 Retail / $2225.00 invoice option. I believe the Premium Package ran about $4000.00 but that also included the chrome wheels. According to what I have read. Leroy
A S.Fl. Ford parts manager told me he sold one as "New" with stand and cover for $3600 .It was sitting in his parts department for a couple of yrs. There are more tops sitting at dealers in fl. than any were else waiting for the owner to remove them .Most Birds in Fl. use the soft top (S.Fl.)
...I just bought a 2005 that came with 2 tops. Because of a storage issue I will sell the black one. ...
Doesn't get much better than that. Do we see a NJ to IL hardtop relay in the near future?
