This forum is large in numbers, but I can't help but wonder how many others are out there that either don't have the time or the desire to post to this forum. I'm not talking about the ones that just bought the Tbird and treat it like any other car. I'm talking about the ones that treat it like a garage queen or close to it. I know of one here in my area. She has an '03, blue, with only 8500 miles on it. She only takes it out in good weather. She is just one of those that enjoys the car and wants it to last as long as possible. She has no interest in showing it at car shows, but she keeps it in the kind of condition where she could if she wanted to. She also doesn't want any part of forums or clubs. Not because she is anti social, just doesn't have the time or the desire to be involved in something like this.
Quite honestly, I still haven't figured out why I still hang around here. I don't even own a Thunderbird anymore. I guess its more the people I've met here than anything else.
So..does anyone else know someone like this? I'm not saying to recruit them...just curious. I mentioned the site to her, but I wouldn't push it. If shes interested, fine, if not, then thats ok too.

I know someone like that as well. Owns a Retro bird, as well as two other birds (77 and a 62), yet doesn't really want to be a part of TBN or any other "club". He says he just likes the cars. I know he's looked at the TBN site as a "guest" a few times, just to get some info, but he said he's not interested in posting or having online conversations or anything like that. Kinda funny, I guess, but each to their own...

I have given cards to eight owners and they don,t seem to be interested in clubs. They sure miss out on valuable information not to mention new friends with common interests.

Even if they don't 'join' or subscribe (whichever is correct) I assume they visit the site as guests or lurk just for information. Between COPS and automatic car washes there isn't anything you want to know about T-birds in particular and stuff in general you won't find here. I think it's a great site and am glad I joined. Like your friend, I hope to keep my Bird a long time.

As someone who bought my first T-Bird 42 years ago at age 21 and still own it, I can tell you that there are lots of enthusiasts like me that has both an old one (1964) and a 2002 Retro Bird and love them both for different reasons. Believe it or not, the car salesman who sold me that first Thunderbird in 1967 and I still talk regularly since he too is a Thunderbird enthiusiast. So relationships forged around the car hobby are often lasting ones.

We all share the same passion our local club has 200+ members and although it is mostly the same 80 or 90 people that always show up to meets the rest are just (no pun intended) along for the ride and only want a news letter every two months.

Because of my shared enthusiasm I have friends all over the world who own Thunderbirds, from Australia to Sweden and most places in between many whom I have met on the internet and later in person. We always hit it off and enjoy each others company.

You are either a car enthusiast or you're not, but those who participate get far more out of the clubs and sites like this have much richer lives and tons of friends who are more like family.

We are quite simply put, people, people.

The cars are the catalist, the people are the real show.

Don't know about LI this year. I have to get in touch with John and John and see if they have any plans. I can help out a lot more this year now that I no longer have the business. I'll get in touch with John this week and keep everyone posted.

                  Hey Sal,

I think we communicated back when you were looking to sell your PCR and I was trying to find one. Glad you still frequent the site. Tbird owner or not, it's a great place to be.

Back to your original question - yes, I know a guy in town like that. He also has a PCR, and actually went to the trouble of coming to my office to meet me when someone told him they knew where another PCR owner worked. He is definitely a "people person." We had a great conversation about our cars, and I gave him both the TBN website and Dot's Porthole Authority. He seemed interested, but to my knowledge, he's never signed up here. Like someone else said - to each his own.

Hey Sal - you don't hang out here and we'll come after you. I also know a guy that owns a 007, totally uninterested in us and showing his car. I as well as my son Charles have stopped and talked to this guy, he's not interested

An old deacon once said, ". . .either you is or you ain't." Either you are a Thunderbird person or you aren't. This site appeals to those of us who have a real affinity for the retro-Thunderbird and want to share our passion with like-minded people. It's not enough to just drive the car--you must love it. We are birds of a feather who like to flock together!

                        Re: Underground Thunderbird Lovers

I've mentioned it to several owners that I have met but none have joined that I know, yet. I enjoy meeting and talking with other owners and read a lot of posts but I don't post alot. Lots of great information in the different threads. I really enjoy the events when I can attend. Seeing those that I know and meeting new owners is great. Just seeing that many birds in one place is awesome. Looking forward to the Choo Choo in the fall. David always plans a great event. Jeannie probably should get most of the credit. I know when it comes to my house the wife tells me what my plans are.

Jerry, how is your tinnitus? I was going to send you a PM, but you don't have that option in your profile. I just received a military disability rating for mine. Sometimes it's almost too much to take.

I know quite a few Thunderbird owners that are passionate about their cars but the internet is not their way of communicating with others. Most are club members, others are just enjoying their cars for what they are, others just don't have the time because of jobs to interact with other owners.
