Re: THESE CARS ARE GOING UP IN VALUE SOMEWHAT!

You can't go by Fl. sales as everyday I see a Bird and think nothing of it.When I read sightings in other states it like seeing a UFO thus a higher demand and price. My Bird was selling for $29,999 when I saw it.Six weeks later I bought it for $24,000.

There are a lot of birds in Florida. You can put the top down all year down here if you want to.

The '02 Birds are now at what would normally be a low point for value if they were just an ordinary used car. Most used car prices flatten out after 7 years and start recovering somewhat due to the increases on new cars due to inflation. Inflation is not much of a problem these days due to the auto sales depression. That is keeping used Thunderbirds from rising in price at this time, in my opinion. Condition and low mileage have much to do with Tbird resale values, as they have with all collectables.

I, however plan to drive, drive and drive some more. The resale value may mean something to my heirs but it won't help me much.

Scarcity probably intervenes to slow the decrease in value but make no mistake.........these cars are sinking just like virtually every other car.

Bought both of our T-Birds used and cut pretty good deals at the time on each as they both were going for end of the season prices.
Bought the '02 in Oct of '06 and the '04 in Nov of '07.

If I were to list 'em today, at the beginning of the season for convertibles I try for close to what I paid......$18,000 for the '02 with 49,000 on it now and just over $20,000 for the '04 with 25,000 on it now...........but I'd expect to take a hair cut on 'em.

          .....and even so......

Given the discounts being offered on new cars along with attractive financing.......I'm probably still being too optimistic.

Enjoy them, drive them, make memories in them. None of us will be around if or when they ever appreciate in value. One of these days the price of gas is going to go through the roof (especially if there's a war between Israel and Iran), and if the government has its way, eventually only "green" cars will be allowed on the roads.

Local L&M dealer in North Jersey had a 2004 silver, one top, on the lot with asking price of $19,900.

It also had "sold" written on the windshield, but there was no way of knowing what the final price was.

Saw a 05 Cadillac XLR for $30,000. That's what I call a hit on a used car. That is a really nice car and is worth every penny if you like 2 seat convertables.

Re: THESE CARS ARE GOING UP IN VALUE SOMEWHAT!

I just pulled out an auction report for the fall of 2001 (September) from my archives. Most of the 8 cars listed went through Manheim. Price ranges are (hold on to your chairs) from $46,000 to $50,250. Mileage range is from 53 (Inspiration Yellow-$46,250 sale price) to 1,491 (Evening Black - $50,200). The $50,250 car had 1,269 miles and was Thunderbid Blue. There were no Nieman Marcus or Whisper White cars on the list. I'm curious how a car that was likely only a month or so old at the time racked up over 1000 miles-likely a factory car I would guess. There were three cars in the 1000 mile range - 960, 1269, 1491. Now we know why some of these cars were selling at $10K over sticker (in addition to just plain dealer greed). How things change! I wonder how long it will take for our cars to reach those price levels again.

Dealers are doing the same thing right now with the new Camero. They know if they sell you one for MSRP you can put it on Ebay for 5k to 10k more and get it. Ford did it with the new Mustang too. I don't think any of us will see our TBirds ever go that high again in our generation, but maybe our Grandkids will? Leroy
