  • Windshield Replacement

Has anyone had any experience replacing a windshield on a 02-05 T-Bird? I'm wondering if there is any advice on what to look for or avoid. Thanks.

Might be some hints in this thread:

Ours was changed out at home by a Safelite rep. - took him about an hour and a half. Most time consuming part was taking the trim off and replacing it.

Lov-r-bird had a rock come up yesterday and crack the windsheild. It is a 12+ inch crack and I would like to know if these can be repaired?

As far as I know, cracks like that can not be repaired. A small star crack may be filled in/covered up but not long cracks. Long cracks mean the glass is broke.

I was driving on the freeway a few years back and a semi with pre-formed concrete pipe droped a small rock off of his deck and it shattered my windshield. I spead up and got the contact information off of the cab and called his dispatcher. The semi driver had already had called the dispatcher and told her that someone would be calling. The trucking company told me to go to the nearest safelite shop where they installed a factory windshield in about four hours. The owner said that it was one of the hardest installs the shop had ever done.

After John relating his experience, I should add that our glass installer had had previous experience with these tbird windshields, here and in Calif. where he had transferred from. He knew what he had to do.

I had a real bad time with my windshield.. rock popped up and broke it last year. first replacement windhield they installed had a defect (a delamination right in front of the driver seat)..the shop (one that the local ford dealer recommended) then got in three windshields in a row.. yes three.... that were each missing one or the other of the two heated section wire harnesses. Finally- after two weeks they ordered the replacement windshield through the local ford dealer. that one is in there now and hopefully will be for a real long time.

Windshield repair is safe, effective, convenient and takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Safelite's certified repair specialists can repair chips, nicks and cracks up to 6 inches long. A quality windshield repair will restore the structural integrity of the windshield, help prevent the damage from spreading, and make the blemish much less noticeable, without removing and replacing the glass.

With a crack in the windshield that big, I have to agree with Dot, especially considering the extreme curves/angles of the T'bird windshield.

Check your chrome windshield trim for bubbles or chipped areas. If they remove that trim to replace the windshield, it's a good opportunity to replace the damaged trim. I plan to do that when I have to replace my windshield.

                      Good Luck on the replacement,

Good luck with that. I waited a couple of months in vain for Team Ford to find all three pieces of that trim and they could only find the bigger top trim after searching all around for me. I am keeping that as a spare. Mine is starting to go.
