    Re: Opinions wanted apply within

Lets see which is worth more, a stock 1950 Mercury sedan or a chopped and channeled hot rodded one? or how about a 1932 Ford three window coupe or a highboy hot rod?

I'll keep it simple. Keep the "egg crate" grille. It completes the retro look.

I am one of the first people to go for mods which suit my tastes. But when it comes to the stock grille, I simply love its styling, and I completely agree - it is so retro, and perfect for the car.

Countless people have already stated, "it's your car and you do what you like with it"... I subscribe to this saying, so give the mod a try, and if you don't like it, put the egg crate back in.

        Have fun !!

Having removed the front bumper and grill several times on my retro T-bird all these "nah saying" comments are completely unwarranted.

If you think that swapping the grill out will somehow affect resale value at some distant point in the future you probably also think that adding fuzzy dice to the rear view mirror is an irreversible major overhaul and the Devils work. I painted a plastic chrome grill black years ago on a car and I absolutely loved the way it looked. The grill on my Tbird reminds me of the gill on my first car, a 1955 Chevy, so I probably won't change it.

My advice is to change it 4 or 5 times until you get a look that you like, as has been suggested you may want to make some other changes in addition to the grill to complete the new look, and for you nah sayers I bet you I can probably change out the gill on a retro T-bird faster than you can change a tire (using the factory supplied tools of course).

if its easy to change the grill, why not go get a used one and paint it and change every year like a lot of the guys do with the tops?

OK, here is my UNshy- DON'T Do It!

At the IL TBird Rendezvous in 05 my (then 15 yo) son and I saw a red with the mesh grille. In our opinion, it was repulsive.

If you have a Cadillac DTS add a sim top and mesh grille if you want, but I do not recommend changing one of the key retro looks of the TBird.

                FWIW,

PS: I did order and install the chrome bezel that came with the Cashmere. It really set up the black on my hood. Also added chrome rocker panels. Neither mod changed the retro characterictic look of the car.
