  • BORLA high performance exhaust

I have made a few posts on my quest for better sound from my beloved TBird and have even tried the home made Borla that some of us have tried. I changed the stock system by removing the resinators and going with a straight pipe. it works but on a long drive I found the sound to be too much. the pitch was giving me a headache but I had to give it a try.

I purchased a Borla cat back system from a local speed shop and went to a local exhaust specialist and good thing I did. when I got there, he said it would be one hour charge to install the Borla and he was saying that it was a good product and quality.

So at this point, he removed my old system and started to lay the Borla out on the floor and we were very happy all the parts and clamps were there. he started the installation and the mufflers and pipes all went up in record time. then we unwrapped the right side resinator and the beautiful borla tips. the chrome tip had a small dent on it and he asked me what I thought. it was small dent and luckily it was on the bottom side and no one but me would ever know. I'm up in Canada and this thing was not going back to California for a small dent so up it went. looked great! now for the left side .....now the fun starts. the left was a right. the box was right from the factory and had never been opened, so by accident, a Borla employee had given me two right sides. OH NO, now what? well, it was good I went to this guy. he cut and fabricated the set up to work and moved the hanger to hold the exhaust up and rewelded it with a stainless steel weld. it all got buffed and looks great. this guy was a real Tradesmen, so all is well.

I called Borla and told them the story and that I had two right sides and they where very good about it and are sending me a new tip for the dented one and a t-shirt. The Borla experts told me that my retrofit has not changed anything in the system, both sides are the same. my speed shop has given me a gift certificate as well and I have a Great story to share with the guys about my exhaust.

So now, I ask, is there some one out there that opened their Borla Box to find out that they have to left sides?

Ron (Sumerbird) Love the Borla sound.

guess that muffler made a change when it hit the border I'm sure it would have been a pain to ship back and forth good thing you found the right installer.

Ron, yes it has happened to a couple members here. It is not unusual for Borla to get a little sloppy at times. However, they are always very good about correcting their mistakes and making things right with the customer. Enjoy your Borla's, you are a Borla guy now!

Yes with the old mufflers on the floor, I was ready to keep moving forward and could not even think of having to box it all up and send it back as well as reinstall the Ford system.

glad it worked out for you and the installer was able to easily make it right. I've been toying with the idea of a Borla myself. If I ever pull the trigger, will definitely make sure the shipper checks for the correct left/right components.

I did not want to go the 'Borla' route but, being a 007 Bird, i thought a couple of 'cannon barrels' out the back would look just right. Any thoughts ?

Martin, the rear tips look really good and suit the "007" theme. I thought that the moment I saw your car when you came to Ottawa.

No Borlas, but I did buy a high performance trunk mat. When I opened the box I thought it must have been a Canadian version because it looked reversed. Then I realized I had it upside down. When I flipped it over it fit perfectly! Sounds awesome now and runs great....

Be very careful with that high performance trunk mat Rusty, you know they are illegal in many states, because of the increased horse power.

Got a package in-transit right now......here on Wednesday.

It'd be mixed emotions for sure........I wouldn't be happy .......but I'd probably find a way to laugh it off if I get those 2 left sides.

I wouldn't be happy but it might explain what happened.

I imagine it isn't quite this ridiculous though.

When welding on the hangers I'm hopeful it's simply a case of the builder simply screwing up by welding hangers in the same direction on both pipes in your set.

Easy enough to imagine happening this way if the two sides are the same otherwise.

                            Sumerbird,
You have not said how you like the sound of your new Borla's. I put a set on this spring after listening to both my brother and his T-Bird with the Borla's.
