  • black paint match

    Hello

I purchased my '02 last year knowing it had been in a rear-end collision. I was very careful to see that the body lines matched, which they do perfectly, but was not careful enough to see that the paint did not match perfectly. I found this out with a spot light, and now it is apparent in sunlight. The new paint is "blacker".

I took it to my friends at the body shop. I now know that black is the worst color to match, as they said that one cannot run the computer over it to get the color code--not sure why. So, they advised leaving it alone, as they looked at the Ford paint codes, and said they would likely come up with the same tone as the last body shop did.

Still, I asked them to experiment. So, they are, in time, going to experiment with different mixes, and spray it. Perhaps they will come up with a perfect match, as they are very talented.

Has anyone gotten a perfect match code for the black that they would like to share? Anyone else had this experience?

What seems really odd, is that most of the Birds I have looked at have been smashed at some point. I can tell this either by body lines or paint issues. Wondering: Do they ship all the smashed ones up north?

    Thanks,

    Bruce

    Re: black paint match

    Bruce,

Sounds like time for a complete overspray on the entire body. My guess is that with the problem you're describing, combined with the everpresent swirl marks so prevalent on black, you're always going to see some variation.
