  • shock replacement

This may have been discussed before.

Anyone replaced their 2005 TBIRD shocks ?

I have 56000 miles and the car seem to be riding rough.

Could this be due to worn out shocks ?

Ford maintains this car and it is in excellent condition.

I do have Bridgestone tires with about 12000 miles on them.

    Thanks.

    Happy Trails

    Re: shock replacement

I've never felt the need to replace my 2002 shocks Johnny, I would guess it might be the amount of air you carry in the tires. Swing by a Bridgestone store and ask them what they feel the proper amount of air is that you should carry in them, I don't know if you go by the recommendation on the tire or if you make that decision yourself as to how much air you want in the tires, but wouldn't hurt to ask. I know that when I was taking my car to Michelin for the free tire rotations they offered me because I had Michelin tires on my car at the time, they told me that the recommended air Ford wanted in the tires was incorrect and they always added more air.
I doubt it is your shocks, but anything is possible I guess.

Maybe you should put Nitrogen in your tires? Leroy

        Re: shock replacement

The shock/strut discussion goes on and you can go to the garage forum to see the most recent input. I replaced mine at 50k miles on the 04 because I thought it was riding rough. I think it made a difference but I also got new tires around that same time so who can tell. Ford didn't want to do the replacement and went by the old standard that if they aren't leaking, don't replace. Most replacements have been made in the 02 and 03 models because there is some indication these earlier struts were softer, perhaps the ones from the six cylinder Lincoln LS.

I have a appointment next Tuesday with my FORD SERVICE MANAGER to check it out.

If Ford don't find anything I will use Julie's recommendation.

I have 35 pounds per tire in the Bridgestone tires and will go back to 30 pounds that I ran in my original michelin tires.

Im with Julie on the lower tire pressure, im still on my original shocks. 35 Lbs will make it ride rough as all get out.

              shocks were good....

lowered air pressure to 30 and that seem to help.

I swapped out my Tbird at 80,000 miles for one with only 4,000 miles. Until I started driving the new one I really had not realized just how bad the shocks had got. I probably should have replaced them at 50,000 or so.

The shocks were all still serviceable, but the ride had really deteriorated.
