  • My Thunderbird Journey Has Come To An End, Folks...

Just this past month it seems like everything built up and made me realize that I can no longer afford to keep the Byrd. It finally struck me that it was time to get rid of it. I tried selling it private party but did not receive ONE offer on it. I know I was asking too much for it but that was because I was very upside-down on my loan. I didn't think I would ever trade her in but I ended up doing it last Saturday. Finally found a Ford dealership who would make a good deal with me thanks to my friend whose Dad works there as a salesman. This hasn't been a sad experience for me at all, as a matter of fact. What's turned me off about the Birds this past month is the fact that everyone says on here how they aren't in fact going up in value (which I thought they were according to KBB.com), they won't really be worth much in the future, recent problems I've had with the car, and the fact that it's just too expensive to maintain and too much to pay each month for a car.

SO... I ended up getting a 2007 Nissan Versa for $12K. It is a much more economical car for my age (I'm 22). It's just much more practical all around. My monthly payment has been cut in half and the expenses for the car are going to be MUCH less. I am happy I made this switch. So I just thought I would give you guys an update! That's what happened...

Sorry to hear about the problems you had but can understand the financial burden for a young person. I guess that's the one benefit of being a geezer - money is important but there's more to it than that and I can afford it. You may want to check this out

Sorry to hear that Shanna, but certainly understand your situation. I guess just about everyone goes through something like that in their lifetime.

Well Shanna, it was nice reading your posts over the past few months. Try and look on the bright side: You got to experience ownership of a very nice car at a very young age. Many of us here had to wait until middle age (or older ;) ) to experience that.

If you don't mind my asking, which dealership did you find to take your car? Barber? Vista?

Good luck with the Versa. You know that "Hiro" from "Heroes" loves that car. Having a two year old (virtually new) car at 22 also aint bad.

Check back with us soon. You know where to look if the bug bites you again.

Hey, there are still youngsters here! Can I still call myself a youngster if I'm 30? Maybe I don't want to hear the answer to that question...

Well, when it comes to cars, I think young anyway.

                      Shanna,

Don't look at this as if you are giving up your TBird FOREVER....you can always go back and get another one in a few years after they've become classics! Now you have a goal to work towards....owning a GREAT CLASSIC RETRO BIRD!

                      Good luck!

I'm nearly 26 and I've had my retro T-Bird for 4 years. :) I am sorry for your loss, I am trying hard to keep holding onto mine in these tough economic times!

Sorry to hear you cannot keep your Bird Shanna. But at least you had the luck owning a car like this at your age. Maybe in so many years from now you might think back to those good old days when you were only 22 and had a T-Bird and start looking for a well preserved old timer by then.
