I've got an '05 EB with 44K miles that I drive almost every day. About a week ago I noticed I could feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel when stopped with the engine at normal idle. Moving the gear selector to neutral made the vibration disappear. The next thing to get my attention was a slight engine roughness on rollback from high to normal idle RPM on a cold startup.
Well of course that set the Spidy Senses to high tingle and ramped up the paranoia level to +3 (normaly I'm only twice as paranoid as the average person.) The next fear factor generator was the realization that normal acceleration gear changes didn't always have that silky smooth (gotta love it) Thunderbird feel. Now I'm really worried! I'm not paranoid, there really is something wrong with my beautiful Thunderbird. (I shudda' been so attentive to my ex-wife, maybe I'd still be married - - but that's another story best shared over cold beer and hot spicy nachos.)
I called a friend who is a certified card carrying lifetime designation gearhead to see if he had any ideas. He asked if I regularly used a fuel injector cleaner - you know, the little bottle of stuff you add to an almost empty fuel tank before gassing up. Me, "well, somethimes." Him, "idiot!" "You can use an injector cleaner every 3 thousand miles, or about, or you can have an injector or sensor problem." "You choose."
His recommendation was "Chevron Techron" because it contains polyeither amine (PEA) rather than simply a fuel solvent like the others.
Well guess what folks! I used a bottle of Techron per directions and 3 days later the vibration was gone and my beautiful black bird had that silky smooth Thunderbird feel again.
I intend to keep using Techron - there's info on line if you are interested. And Autobarn has a 6 bottle special price of $6.49 - probably cost $9+ at gas stations.
