    Re: AC Unit "Hot!"

Well it was just as I suspected the old good news bad news story. The good news after several attempts to get it to overheat they found the culprit to be a sticking thermostat which was a mere $34.10 to replace. She had to go in anyway for her 60,000 mile service the cost for that was $500.00. Now the bad news. They found a leak in the transmission which was either a bad seal or worse a groove in the torque converter. There was some good news there in the fact that it was only the seal but that added an extra $500.00 to the bill. Out the door cost today $1057.69. That brings the total in repairs since we bought her in 2006 following my cancer surgery to @$8000.00. Never had a warranty so if we ever get a new one you can bet we'll be getting it with an extended warranty. We have replaced the cops, the suspension the usual maintenence & now this. But enough sad stuff. We get in the Bird step on the gas put the top down & and say We love our Tbird afterall it's only money & you only go around once so it might as well be in a Thunderbird.

Mike, I love your outlook! If we didn't spend it on our Birds, we would spend it somewhere else.

        Re: AC Unit "Hot!"

Just got back from the Lincoln-Mercury dealer and the good news is that there were no error codes showing when they tested the HVAC. What they did find was that the refrigerant charge was low so they added refrigerant and a dye to see if there were any (seal) leaks. Using UV light, they saw none immediately so they sent me on my way and I have to return in three weeks for them to use the light again to see if they can see any dye and therefore, a leak(ing seal). They seemed very knowledgeable and told me they do A/C work on the Lincoln LS cars all the time.

Also, with the Premium 7 Year Extended Warranty, all repairs will be covered (in the event it needs a seal or something more extensive) and so I paid the $50.00 deductible and will not have to pay again if they replace/repair anything when I bring it back in three weeks.

They asked me to use the A/C as much as possible the next three weeks and said (like has been discussed here earlier) that a seal could have "dried out" because we use the A/C so little (duh, it's a convertible).

The air conditioner works like when it was new and freezes me out when I set it to 60 degrees and works great set at 69 degrees. The passenger side is cold too. I'm going to run it the next three weeks even when I'm going "top-down."

So, thus far, I'm a 'happy camper" and I hope a leak shows up somewhere so it can be repaired. Looks like it might be "door number three;" a dried out seal (see my previous post).

            Re: AC Unit "Hot!"

Just had the car checked again for leaks of the refrigerant (had it in about four weeks ago and they put a dye in along with adding refrigerant).

They looked with a UV light and special glasses and did not see any leaks. The Service Advisor said either the leak is too small to detect or the seals dryed out becasue we use the A/C so seldom and when they recharged it, they (seals) got "wet" again and resealed the unit. Told me to try and run the A/C every so often to keep the seals "wet."

A/C works like it did when car was new.
