#1.As some of you may know, my engine light came on while at CBT. However it went out on the way to the local Ford Dealer there in Wilmington. No code showed or was saved. Car was running fine so I kept on going trouble free.
#2.I also encountered a problem with my fuel gauge being erratic with its reading. I would fill up with the car showing 1/2 tank, and it would take 16 gallons. I knew there was a problem, no way I could be getting the miles out of a 1/2 tank. Then one afternoon on I-95, car showed over 1/4 tank of fuel. Then the gauge dropped to empty instantly, fuel light came on, I panicked and started looking for a exit. Then, gauge went back to over a 1/4, fuel light off. Still headed for the closest gas station, before getting there, dropped to empty, fuel light on. Got to a station and the car held over 17 gallons, I think the car only holds 18 gallons, I considered myself lucky.
#3. Car started a slight miss last week, thoroughly frustrated, I headed to my local ford Dealer.
Some of you may have also heard me praise my service manager. Well he came through again, I explained the whole scenario of all 3 events. He took my car in, gave me a new loaner, said he would get someone on it, thought they may need to keep it a day, maybe two, and he would give me a call. That was at 8:30 AM Thurs, by 11:00 AM, same day, got a call, car was ready, had to replace my first coil, the #4, solved the miss.
The gas gauge, first I've heard of this, but there is a TSB out for erratic fuel gauge reading. It's # 17930, a long list of codes that could possibly show up for this, seems that if you get any gas with a sulfur contamination it will cause the fuel sender card to temporally malfunction. Solution was a fuel treatment and it should correct after 2-3 tanks of fuel. Have to check my trip odometer and check my miles to confirm it's back to correct reading. I went in totally stressed, but was back in my car by days end, coil replaced, miss gone, hopefully a corrected fuel gauge. And didn't cost me one red cent!
