Sorry if this offends any of the purists in the forum but the VERY FIRST THING that would be gone in a 2 seater from the 50s, for me anyway, is that BOAT ANCHOR Ford was passing off as a V8 engine back then.
A beautiful car deserves a reliable and powerful engine. Seems to me a donor car with a modern Ford V8, wiring harnesses and related computer parts and over drive transmission would be well worth the effort to swap parts out of. It'd take some time, money and sweat equity but just imagine the car when you're done.........if it's really your dream ........
There are plenty of non-matching numbered T-Birds out there today you could turn into a wonderful daily driver without feeling like you're just ruining a piece of automotive history.
Just FYI there is no numbers to match on the baby birds. And yes you can go and put any engine you want but be prepared to loose at least 50% of the investment and pay 3 times the restoration price which will be already three times larger than you already expect, engineering costs allot of money. While putting a 302 into a hot rod 38 will not loose you points anything but a Y block in a bird will cost you most of your investment. But to each his own I have always wanted to put a FE in a vette just to have chevy guys go by and go WTF!? Also a good mod recomended is to put some disc brakes on these birds. It seams today people think you can stop on a dime and pull out on you without giving you time to stop with four drum brakes. A Y block will provide a long life and service with plenty of HP and many of the after market electronics are better today then they were back when and if you can put a aluminum intake on it (heads are being proposed to be made but nothing as of yet). Also get good at finding vacuum leaks and chasing sparks because most problems i encounter are not mechanical its electrical. Bad grounds being the worse culprit or a vacuum leak some where. not as bad on my birds but try doing a classic cougar, now your talking problems with vacuum.2005 Inca Gold 1 of 82

Re: Anyone willing to trade? ;)
try going the cyber nest on google and poke around in some of those pages. You will have better luck i think there are only a few of us on here who have both retro's and babys, 4 off hand there may be more but you would have better luck going where the baby bird owners are. You may also want to see what 18,500 gets you at amos minters site. Amos Minter on google will get you there, but not to throw water on your parade but baby birds are expensive and while i enjoy my 2005 i know it is loosing value daily and may never gain any. Most who have have a baby bird have the money to go buy a 2002-2005 so if you were to trade you would probably only be able to get a project like the one on Minters site. I may be wrong but i have been restoring cars and been in the hobbie for a very long time. and there are always deals out there. I mean i got my 57 for 15 grand and as a driver. I showed up the night with money in hand and didn't barter. but i beat 8 other people to the house who also had the money in hand. My suggestion. start with a less expensive bird say a 64-65. Restore it, drive it and enjoy for a bit then sell. then go up the chain a few times make a little money from sweat equity and then you can buy your baby bird. Or you can always just go to haggerty finance and finance one. Hope this helps.Last edited by WVIncagold; Jun 19, 2009, 02:52 PM.2005 Inca Gold 1 of 82
