Thank you everyone that has done all of the hard work and bleeding so that, when the time comes, I will be able to do this fix. I have two things that make this job easy. I have another vehicle, and a lot of time. When this happens to me, I'll get the problem comfirmed by a professional and do the fix at home. If it takes two weeks for me to do it, I still saved the money and grief of going to a dealer.
My T-Bird is now fixed and running great; #2 coil was oil soaked and was the cause for loss of power. Just a note for everyone that may want to try this repair. From what I've seen, replacing the coils and ignition covers is not that difficult but if the problem was caused by oil leaking from the valve covers, the valve cover gaskets will have to be replaced and this is a bigger job. It can still be done with basic tools and skills and will save you lots of money.
Can someone pdf to me a copy of the Customer Satisfaction Program 07M07, which says that Ford will cover the costs for replacing bad COPs for 2003 to 2005 T-Birds?
I havn't had any cop problems yet, but I was wondering what brand of Cop replacement do you recommend. I was thinking that I should purchase a few to keep as spares for my 02 Bird. I priced them out at Checker Auto Parts and was quoted $55.99 each last Dec. in Mesa AZ.
I think they were about the same at NAPA auto parts. Online at www.rockauto.com they were $44.79 with $7.67 to ship to Mesa.
What does ford want for these??
Cheers,
Jim
Well, I got mine back yesterday, and even though I told them that I was certain it was a COP problem (I have a 2005 T-Bird) that was causing problems with acceleration and the "wrench" to show up on my dashboard, they said that the codes indicated a throttle assembly problem, and they replaced it (I had to pay a $100 deductible). I sure hope they are right.
I've just joined the club. My car was surging at low RPM and didn't seem to have the same power. Dealer says a COP was damaged by oil leaking from a valve cover. No engine light to indicate an issue. No warranty for me; with diagnostics, parts and labor this is a $1000 repair-OUCH!
$1,000 to basically replace valve cover gaskets on one side of the engine and how many coils?
Not the the number of coils or plugs on one side really matters much.......that's just INSANE and boarders on criminally high priced for what really is a pretty simple job.
Does anyone at all doubt that dealerships make more cash in the service department than anywhere else?
For that matter is there any doubt as to why dealerships have been labeled "Stealerships" by many folks?
