S Type Jaguar Will Not Start

Hi, The S type is from the Dew 98 Platform like our Birds, Battery is fully charged all the lights and locks work fine but when you turn the key it won;t even turn over. Any Suggestions from the Mechs out there? Thanks for your Time, Rick

Maybe the neutral switch or the transponder in the key is not working.

Could be alarm lock. Maybe the iginition was cut of by it.

Rick, do you have both sets of keys for the car? Have you tried the other key? You'll have to wait abit though to try with the other key to allow time for the lock to reset.
If that doesn't work then you'll need to dig further for the problem.

Richard, I would first try to jump start the Jag. Even though your lights and locks work fine, the battery could very well be to low to crank the engine.

Like Bruce said, it could be the neutral safety switch. Can you pull the gearshift lever out of "park" into "neutral" and try to start it there? If that doesn't work and you have the owners manual look and see if there is a procedure in it for "Gear-shift Interlock Manual Overide". You have to remove the screw-in plug to do this that is located on the gearshift facia above the "park" position. You either insert the igintion key or similar tool into the hole and push down GENTLY while simultaneously moving the selector put of "park" and into "neutral". Then see if you can start the car after removing the tool. Make sure you are on level ground, have the wheels chocked, and emergency brake on.
Dot's suggestion to try the other key is a good first step.

This happened to my Lincoln LS.

If you turn the key on and she still will not come out of Park or start, try rocking the car slightly. Also, try moving the steering wheel. (My dealer says this sometimes works.)

I had my car towed to the dealer, and it started there first shot. Just the movement during the tow must have done something.

Wow Thanks to All for your knowledge in this matter, But DOT's Idea Worked I found the other set of Keys and I turned the Key and it started right up, Thank you Dot for being so smart on these cars. Thanks again, Rick
