2005 MSB being sold

I am seriously considering selling my baby. Lately I have been driving it less and less, it's got just over 35k on the spedo. I do love her, but I'm ready to drop back to one car. I'm retired and can walk to the golf course from my condo.

My question is: what do you think I can list it for ( $$ ), I've seen all sorts of prices. She's got all the bells & whistles, blue hard top, blue soft top, blue accent interior. Since I'm in Florida, the hardtop has been on only twice, both times just because I've moved! I'm the second owner, the first was a 2 year lease that put only 17k miles on it, I've put 17k in 3 years.

Florida, Golf, and Thunderbirds go together. Don't do it!! Just Sell the Hardtop. We don't need them here. Keep your beautiful Bird, and join us on Tom's awesome cruises he puts on thru-out the year.

Ditto what Dave said.I have two cars and drive the Bird when ever I can. For long trips I take the Caddy as we usually drive others around.

Oh, please don't sell that beautiful Bird! Think of all the wonderful top-down evening cruises in FL, and just the sheer joy of having it, especially in retirement...at your beck & call whenver you want a thrill!

Ed, I'm in a similar situation.

At least when I worked, I'd try to get the car out once per week to drive to work, weather and road conditions permitting.

Now that I'm "retired", and my wife is not one for cruising, I find that I hardly use the car, and when I do, I drive the same roads by myself. Not much fun.

When I do get the urge to just hit the road, it's a toss up between the TBird and my Galaxie.

I try to use the Galaxie for carshows, and the TBird for "rides to nowhere".

Things could change soon if my 94 TBird fails inspection and gets sold. Then, the 2003 becomes the second car.

A 2005 MSB with 55,000 miles (I think) went this weekend at a Mecum auction for about $18,500 not including commissions. I thought that was kind of low but as one TBN member said, it was a high mileage car and that just makes it another used car - not really collectible eventhough the announcers pegged it as a future one.

If I were you, I'd hang on to it, at least for a few more years, after the prices have 'firmed up' a bit. I've seen 2002 T-Bird advertised here in L.A. for a low as $ 12,500 (higher mileage cars). 2005's are asking around $ 28,000-30,000, (Low mileage) but I don't know what they're selling for.

The T-Bird market has been soft due to the economy and the fact that they aren't yet old enough to be considered true 'collectibles'.

Neiman-Marcus editions (only 200 built) go for more, as do the 2003 '007' Special Editions, and in some cases the '50th Anniversary Cashmere Metallic Tri-Coat.' All 2005's were called '50th Anniversary' editions, but only the Cashmere has any real collectible value right now.

There are a few new or almost new T-Birds out there for sale, but the prices are pretty high. I know of one guy that has a complete collection of every year's 'feature car': a 2002 Neiman-Marcus, a 2003 '007,' a 2004 'Pacific Coast Roadster' and a 2005 50th anniversary cashmere. He's asking $ 200,000 I think for all four together. A lot of money, but they're all brand new, delivery miles only. I think a collection like that might go for $ 500,000 to $ 1 million in 10-20 years, but that's a LONG wait!

I'd keep it and enjoy it Ed. I love driving my 2 Thunderbirds and I try to get them out of the garage a lot more these days especially on the weekends. I might as well enjoy them as much as I can; I paid for them.

Also, I figure at some point my when daily driver 2004 VW Passat won't go anymore, I'll probably put my grey Thunderbird into daily service. I would rather use and enjoy what I've got than have another car payment.

I'm starting to re-consider.... I've been lucky enuf to have had BMWs, Corvettes, MG, Alfa Romeo, Firebirds, etc etc etc. I can honestly say none compare with the fun I have with the bird. Maybe just getting old !

I was shocked, but my 94 TBird passed NJ inspection this morning. The car still has the original factory exhaust system at 144,800 miles (4.6 sohc). She uses less than a quart of oil every 1,500 miles. Except for poor transmissions, these were great cars.

So, I'm right back where I was with my 2003 TBird with under 16,000 miles and nowhere to go.

"...nowhere to go?" Call a friend, ...tell him you're going to go on a road trip. If you find a guy as easy going and fun to travel with as I did, you'll regret when the trip comes to an end.

If you are interested in touring New England, let it be known that you'd like a navigator. Everyone with a 2002-2005 Thunderbird should let their Bird flex its wings and a road trip is the way to do it. When you return the car will run better, sound better, and you'll have stories to tell for the rest of your days.

I have a good friend (she's called a wife), but we enjoy our place in the sun so much we seldom go far. I think I may just suggst we head down to the Keys, that may get the blood flowing again.

Ed...DO go down to the Keys, and here's a little island advice...
1. DON'T go on a weekend
2. Take Card Sound Rd, NOT the 18-mile stretch from Florida City. You'll love the scenery on Card Sound, and you'll miss all the traffic & back-ups on the A1A stretch to Key Largo. It's a perfect drive for the Bird!

Good advice, we were married in Key Largo 12 years ago, time to revisit. If you're looking for a nice ride from Norfolk (where I worked (USN) for 4 years), my daughter & son-in-law have an airport in Weirwood VA. It's called Campbell Field (www.campbellfieldairport.com), the directions they gave me the first time I visited was "go over the Ches. bay bridge, drive 22 miles and take a left" ! Anyway, they have a 'soup on sunday' where people fly or drive in and shoot the bull. If you like airplanes, some very unusal ones come in for a free hot dog ! People in that neck of the woods are really really friendly.
