  • HARD TOP RELAY

Life has finally settled down since now 3 relatives have died in the last year. My home and belongs are once again mine! So I'm off on a road trip! Dead heat of August to the desert, but what would you expect from a crazy "Zoni" (Arizonan)?

So I was just thinking: Why not see if anyone needs a HT moved West (or East, on my way back)?

I would have to pick up one (or more) anywhere from Lebanon, TN on August 12, then off to Amarillo, TX where it would have to be picked up. Then I'm off to a seminar, maybe eating some fire, up to the playa's of Black Rock Desert, NV, Bonneville Salt Flats, UT and points colorful and breathtaking beyond! And all by myself! Yippee!

I would be able to carry one (or more?) East on my way back, but it would have to be picked up no further than Maryville,TN. I'm driving the Tail of The Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway on my way back to Winston-Salem and want the top DOWN! :^)

How would you say it would compare to driving TOD in a car?
(or have you ever driven it?) I've seen on the TOD website it gets pretty darn twisty. Was there alot of truck traffic? Did you choose a time of day to ride it or just wing it? I heard up to 11am it's pretty clear, and after 6pm too.
Can you tell I'm real excited about this?

      Thanks! Scooter Safely!

rode it both vehicles, both directions and all days. definitely a weekday is better than a week end. no truckl traffic at all, if it is, it is a mistake on their part and it is one curve after another. unless yoou are on a crotch rocket, about 35 is your max speed down to about 20. on sat. there was not much car traffic, mostly bikes, but today, sunday, was full of both. corvettes clubs, bmw s, suvs. held the speed down for the rockets a lot. so if you plan on riding it, do it on a weekday if possible, and be sure to do the cherohola skyway. aabout 40 miles of long sweeping curves at 5000 feet elevation, beautiful scenery, and not as much traffic of either sort. take a drive out to bald river falls also near the tellico plains end of it. you can do both in drives in one day, about 120 miles together, also if you are on 129 you can see the dam where harrison ford fell from in the fugitive. wow, did not mean to bore you, but there is a lot of great driving there.

Awesome! I'm going to do Cherohala on my way home. Seems like a perfect close to an awesome roadtrip! I plan on being at Robbinsville btx 10-11:30am. Going to loop at "The Crossroads of Time" around "Hell-Bender", and back up the Dragon, taking a break somewhere around Maryville. Then, off West (I miss my land)! As it turns out my timing is just about perfect...the Playa @ Black Rock Desert, NV a couple days before "Burning Man" (Jury out on that one...), and, sadly, about a week late for Speedweek @ Bonneville Salt Flats, UT :^( I've got a serious camera mount I've been wanting to break in...proof that I can be a complete idiot in the middle of nowhere with no one looking, Yippee!

No, you didn't bore me at all. I really appreciate the details, pointers and opinions alot! If you think of anything else, don't hesitate to holler!

I can't wait to go!!! My concern right now is that we just seem to have a bit of over-steer on the Retro's. Does anyone have any whiz-bang ideas for tightening it up a bit? Or ideas on tire inflation for improved handling maybe? 'Twould be much appreciated!
