Re: Daily Driving means more topless driving.

The way I look at this endless debate is this. There are two ways people enjoy and derive pleasure from their Birds: the tangible (owning a car that's both beautiful and unique), the intangible (the memories made driving it). Some fall in between the two. There's no right or wrong. I personally lean much more toward the intangible side of the debate. I love the car because it's beautiful and unique, but I love what I get from driving it more than I do from looking at it. I can take pictures of the tangible and store them in an album, but the memories I make from driving it can only be stored in my heart.

It really makes my day when someone makes a comment about the bird.

I don't understand why this is debated so often. Why should anyone care how someone else chooses to use their car. Personally, we do not drive ours hardly at all in the winter and use it on weekends and nice evenings. I plan on owning it well into my retirement (probably in 10 years) and want to make it last. You won't be buying ours when yours wears out so you better hope that someone else has one for you. This is the first and last time I'm going to engage in this debate.

              Whoah there,

Why are some folks getting all hoity toity all of a sudden. When I started this thread I was just making the point that although originally we had not expected to use our bird as a daily driver, our circumstances changed because my wife and I now work for seperate companies. Prior to that we had always shared our other car and drove into work together. I now travel to and from work every day in the bird. This is the first Summer using it this way and I was pointing out how nice it is to be able to drive to and from work with the top down.

As a side track I had asked about raising or lowering the top whilst parked at a red light. What's the problem with that then?

Mark, I agree with you. Our Tbird is never going to be a daily driver, and neither is our XK8. It's hard on me seeing what happens to the cars that have become our "daily drivers". No matter how careful you are, they still take a beating. Much of my working career I was fortunate to have company cars so I got used to owning nice cars and keeping them a long time with low mileage.

Wouldn't you really rather have an 03,04, or 05 to keep forever and ever? I would, black of course.

All the other convertibles that I have owened had two that never lined up if you tried to put the top up at a stop light you would make a lot of people mad because it took forever to get them latched.

I waited too long when I saw an approaching storm north of Dallas. Too many stoplights and by the time I had slowed down for a light, the lights turned green and I couldn't keep the speed up to keep the rain out. I ended up in what looked like a little used left turn lane to put the top up. Wouldn't you know it, it took longer than normal as I was in a hurry so I was glad I had some towels in the car to dry up what I could reach.

I'll debate this every time I get the chance. DRIVE!!!

Feel the wind blow through your hair [if you still have it].

Feel the sun burn down on your face [so what if you look like a red lobster].

Crack up the tunes and smile at the other drivers as you cruise on by them in great style.

I know the 2002 has less horsepower and the COPs aren't covered, but we really like the one we have. Besides, something nice about having the 1st year it was made (Car Of The Year). Who knows, after we retire, maybe a second Tbird, different year & color, is in the cards. I reread my earlier post and I'm sorry I came off so terse.
