  • 2009 Hallmark Ornament....1963 T-Bird Sports Roadster

I know we discussed this before, but I could not locate the thread.

In case you did not know, the 2009 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas ornament is out. I picked up two of them the morning they were released to the public. It's a nice one, #19 in the Classic American Car Series.

Now if I could only come up with the #1 release (1957 Corvette) from back in 1991 for a reasonable price, I'd have the whole collection to date. They are still listing between $50 and $80 on ebay...pretty steep for a $14.99 ornament.

HMMMM....sounds a lot like a certain Whisper White diecast we all know and love...

lol. Way back in 1992, I went to a Tbird Christmas party where we "exchanged" gifts via a drawing. If you brought a gift, you received a gift so there were no losers. My pick turned out to be the 91 Corvette because.... the buyer had thought they were picking up a tbird (which was the 92 offering) and didn't look at thepackaging to double check. at least they didn't look at the packaging until I had opened it up. I think? I still have the Corvette someplace...

At first price escalated quickly on the Corvette model IF it had a brown tree instead of a green tree. I guess people eventually forgot that's why the price went up quickly on those first issues and the Corvette became a saught after model.

I received the Corvette ornament the next Christmas from a friend who had forgotten to give it to me the year before. I made it abundantly clear how much I appreciated the gift, even if delayed. They were already bringing about $50 at that point I think. I'm geussing that they were less than $10 retail then, maybe $7-$8. I'll advise in 5 months when we get our Christmas decorations out.

PS: And how things change. I saw the 2008 Corvette series issue, a '63 Stingray, in my local Hallmark store for $3.75. And had about 7-8 of them.

These generally are fair trasde items, at least until after Christmas. I tried to get some "wholesale" when the 50th anniversary set came out to give TBN folks a break on price, but they would not budge because I was not a Hallmark dealer. Even individual dealers wouldn't give me a break and I was willing to buy large quantities of them.

My mom started the sereis for me way back but did not get the Corvette. I ended up paying big$$ for it but the set is complete and ongoing. It is a nice memory of my Mom.

I geuss maybe I should stop hanging the 'vette on the Christmas tree and put it in a safe deposit box.

My Aunt started giving me two in my stocking since the 80s ...

I have 2 complete sets. I started collecting the truck series on my own.

Interesting that the other early issues such as the 2nd year Mustang and the 59 Pink Caddy have not appreciated like issue #1 Corvette.

The other one in the series that brings good money most of the time is the blue '70 Mustang Mach I.

I suggest folks check out eBay for the ornaments. I was able to get this year's Thunderbird, Chevy SSR and Corvette Concept all at once for $29.95 + $6 shipping. A decent deal since each of them retail for $15.99 + tax.
