  • Splash Guards - opinions?

I was just curious to know if anyone bought Aaron's (Thunderbird Concepts) new splash guards and if they had any issues installing them, and what they thought about them.

I know there are differing opinions out there on what looks good and what doesn't on our Tbirds, but to me it's personal taste. My first thought when I heard of them was that they were a "bit much" for the car (when I think of splash guards or mud flaps, I think of big ole trucks), but I decided to give it a try anyway.

I bought and installed them (got them in the mail last week). They are made very well, of good quality, and even though I am a mechanical idiot, I was able to install them fairly easily with only a couple of minor issues.

Now, having had them on for a few days, here's my (humble) opinion. I think everyone should modify their cars to suite their personal tastes, and I am sure that on other folks' cars, they'll look great, but I'm not sure at this point I like them on mine. It may be the color of my car, or just the combination with the other "bling" I have installed (chrome fender trim), but they just don't seem to go right with it. A little over the top, I think, and maybe a little gaudy. They seem a bit larger than I thought they would be (just from looking at photos before I bought them)and kind of interrupt the natural flow of the body of the car.

As I said, they may look great on someone else's bird, so your mileage may vary. And, as usual, Aaron and his folks have done a great job of producing a product that is well made for a great price. I'm just thinking that they're not for me.

I intend to keep them on for about another week, to see if I change my mind, but if I haven't then, I intend to take them off. Barbara, on the other hand, loves them. Go figure....

Any other opinions, experiences with them?

    thanks,
    bobby

If you never go on gravel roads then you don't need them. I like mine. I have had them on for 7 years now.

                  T-Birders

I think it goes well with the chrome fenders. I would keep them on.

I would also include chrome on the upper body, too to balance the chrome on the lower area.

There are no splash guards on Cashmere... but I do have factory guards on my Maxima. They are body-colored. I also put them on my Chrysler.

If there were color-coordinated.... I would be even more interested for Cashmere.

                  Thanks

They look like the inexspensive chrome ones you get at the parts store, try to find molded body color one's, they would look far better; I do like the T-Bird emblem on them.

I thought so as well, but they are mounted to the holes already there in the edge of the fender well...no drilling was required.

My Splash Guards are plain black. I like it that way. I do not want to change the factory look too much.

Bobby, I agree they would look better if they were shorter.
I have Mike's splash guards on my car and they are effective in keeping the car cleaner, but I have mixed feelings on the looks. I think about removing them almost every time I wash the car.

I painted mine to match the car. Also, cut them down a little so they don't hang down so low. You would'nt be able to cut yours because of the T-Bird emblem but you may be able to trim from the top and re-position them. If you don't want to bother with all that, leave them on the way they are or take them off and forget about it.
