  • Route 66 Hall of Fame Museum

Sue and I met Ray & Debbie Reed for a fun day out to the Route 66 Hall of Fame Museum in Pontiac Illinois. In addition to a great exhibit on Illinois Route 66 they had a wonderful war memorial museum upstairs.

We took a few pictures in front of a mural in the back of the museum.

Re: Route 66 Hall of Fame Museum

Like Mike said, the four of us had a great time yesterday. Had a wonderful time touring the museum, and talking about everything from politics to grandkids. Man, was it hot. It was the first 90 degree day of the summer here in central Illinois. The museum was a blast. Lots of interesting Route 66 stuff. The war museum was incredible. It would take at least a half day to take just that part of the museum all in.

There's no admission fee to get into the museum. They rely completely on donations. If you're ever near Pontiac, IL, it's well worth taking the time to go through the museum.

As Mike was taking photos of our cars in back of the museum, a group of four wanted Mike to take photos of them standing next to the cars. They thought our cars were part of the museum's Route 66 display.

Next up is the Bloomington Thunderbird Rendezvous on October 3rd, and then onto Choo-Choo the weekend after that. This summer has flown by. I figure there are only about 11 more weeks of top down driving, before hardtop weather hits.

Great shots Mike and Ray. Looks very graphical with the big mural behind it.

Since they are T-birds and there are two of them does that make it auto-bi-ographical?

We only live 20 miles from there. Lots of good things to see and places to eat. The route 66 cafe in Dwight is also a good place to go, plus there is a old restored gas station there. My wife and I are going down old 66 this weekend on our way to Alton,Il. Plan to drive down the last remaining brick part of 66 south of Springfield. George

We ate at a place that was recommended by a worker at the museum; Baby Bulls. I've never stopped at the Route 66 Cafe in Dwight (but have a picture in front of gas pumps there) but have taken many pictures in front of the Standard Oil Station in Odell.
