  • Thermostat and Power Steering Pump Issue

Was having an issue with fan roar but wasn't showing running hot. There was a puddle the next morning. Thought it was antifreeze but turned out it was issue with power steering pump hose connection. My local mechanic still could not find what was causing fan issue. Of course as soon as I drove it away and longer distance sure enough gauge showing running hot. So my mechanic was closed Sat and decided to take to Ford Service. They said it was the thermostat and wanted to charge $699.00. Owch. I don't think so. I told them I would come get it. Told my local mechanic and he was almost dropped the phone. They said it was all labor and they had to spend several hours bleeding something. I think they are trying to bleed me!

Can any of you tell me how much you paid? Also, strange having the power steering pump issue at the same time. I have around 34,000 miles.

    Thanks,
    Bunny

I paid $140 to replace the thermostat on my Lincoln LS when it was out of warranty (or I thought it was). Should be the same, but since I thought it was on my nickel I had it done at a local mechanic who was on Click and Clack's (from NPR radio fame) web page. Replacing a thermostat is hardly brain surgery. I have used him for all of my out of warranty work.

Bunny, That price is a little over the top! Check this link and scan down to post 19. I had mine replaced at the local Ford dealer down here just this year for around $285.
