    Re: Hard Top Lift

I ordered this after a good bit of research. Same as offered elsewhere but about $250 less. It's been delivered and installed.

Here's some pics of the installation

It was easy - my son did it.

Larry, I also have the Electric Top Cap Lift. It works very well but haven"t reinstalled it yet since we made the move to Florida. Haven't put the hard top on in 1 1/2 years .

I use an electric winch I got at Harbor freight $57 and mounted it to the garage ceiling.

I use big suction cups, like the ones they use to carry big windows, I use three of them and attach them in a triangle on the roof, two in the back one in the front. Then connect the electric winch and up and off comes the top.
Drive the car out and lower the top on to carry.

If you would like I can send picture to your email. I can’t get them to stick on this site.

                Larry--
Here is the current web site of the "Removable" Top hoist people who made my lift. Works very well. http://removabletops.com/index.php?category=6 It works well for me, I can move the top on and off single-handed.

I see that they have moved from Santa Maria, CA to Kingsville, MO, but it looks like the same person is making the hoists. His design is adaptable to any removable hard-top car, probably by changing the dimensions of the lift bar and the back belt length.

I have used the bag which came from Ford for a cover, clipping it together (almost) when the top is hanging.

                    Re: Hard Top Lift

There is a fellow in our local TBird club who made one from the Harbor Freight winch and some straps from the mounting of a bicycle rack.

It is the one I copied and it works great. I can remove the top alone and it also offers the ability to store the top out of the way. I use a bar of square steel tubing across the bottom that has holes drilled in it so that the two top pins sit in it without compressing any of the gaskets. I use this for longterm storage.

His name is Ge0rge and he has pictures of it here:

With a little parts gathering and installing the hoist, this system is by far the best at supporting the top and it is one of the cheapest also.

You can get pretty creative with these things if you allow yourself.
