  • Passenger Door Not Closing Tight Enough?

    T-Birders:

I noticed the passenger door does not fit as tight against the jam as the driver's door. I get more wind noise from the passenger window than the driver's window, too.

I do notice that the catch is attached to the frame with 2 screws.

Is there an easy way to bring the door in?

    Thanks

Carl, have you noticed if the window drop feature is working on the passenger side?

It usually involves a hinge adjustment on the door pillar. A body shop, and/or a dealer could resolve the problem. The doors on these T-birds are about the only thing made from sheet metal, and there is a steel brace which is on the inside of both doors, running the entire length of the door, for crash protection, which makes the doors extremely heavy, when attempting to adjust it.

        Donn,

Do you know about where the bar inside the door is located? The reason I ask is because I have a "Paintless Dent Removal" guy comming over Sat. to take out a small dent in my passenger door.

        Thanks,

Will he use a commode plunger to pull the dents out?

You guys may laugh, but I used that trick on my original Ford car--a 53. The dent had come from an adjacent car opening the door pretty hard against it.

Hi Ron - Donn Watson (bottomtime) on this end - sorry I'm late in getting back to you on your question.......First off, this is a steel brace, rather that a "bar" meaning that is has "width" that runs inside the door from the front of the door to the back of the door. If you were sitting inside the car in the driver's seat, it is located just about where the arm rest is located, to slightly below the arm rest, again running from the front to the back of the door, inside the door panel. And once again, it is there for the purpose of crash protection in the event of a side impact.

Thanks Donn, I checked the ding in my door and it is about 2 inches below the door handle. The tech should be able to fish the instrument down thru the window opening without hitting the cross brace, I hope.
