  • Extended Warranty expired and was offered a Ford used car warranty

Some info I wanted to share:
Last year my Ford dealer went out of business and recommended Acton Lincoln Mercury in the next town to me, in MA.
They were the nicest people from my initial call for a service appointment to the end of my oil change and new State inspection sticker, today.
Of course I was concerned about my tires and battery which are 7 years old, so they checked both and said no problem. I told them I use a battery tender and they said, by using it I could get up to 11 years out of a battery.- No high pressure sales here…..Just what I like.
They only use synthetic motor oil, something I have never used before, but it is a Ford product and that’s all they used on all vehicles. My total oil change was $39.50, which I thought that was pretty good, since I pay $59.00 for my Caddy, and that's with regular motor oil.
He checked the Ford system and found that my extended Ford warranty ran out two weeks ago and now he has offered a used car warranty for up to 4 additional years and/or 48,000 miles, beginning with my current mileage. I had never heard of this before and certainly will consider it.
In fact I may look up that CT dealer and see if they offer the same, but discounted - If I can find their number.

Yes, it's true. Search on extended warranties George. There are several threads about them. Stick with the Ford program though, is my advice.

I believe your car has to pass a certified inspection that you have to pay for, at a cost of $100.00. If the car passes you can choose different extended periods and millage and different coverage and deductables to suit you and to adjust the finnal cost. I extended my 04 for 4 yrs or 48,000 miles with zero deductable for $1800.00 in 07 and didn't have to pay for an inspection because the original warranty was still in effect. Well worth it in my oppinion. Leroy

Extended warranties are a great thing, just make sure you get one that is full coverage, powertrain only are very limited. If you ever had a computer, electrical, ac, etc. problem, the full coverage ext. wty would pay for itself right away. Also from the dealer is the best way to go in my book, as they usually deal with reputable companies. Be sure to get longest coverage in time, not miles and ask about different deductibles, as that can affect the initial cost of the wty. Good luck! I shed only one tear that you passed inspection with the Borlas! Hehe! I will get mine one of these days, not to worry!

            MATbird,
$40 for oil change , WOW.
I pay more than that just for the oil at PEP Boys.
The oil change Co.'s here want $70 for the Bird oil change so I do it my self.

I bought the Ext warranty for 7 yrs. and 75K when I got the Bird and I have 1 year and 4 months to go.

            I have had:
Heads lite replaced becuase of water in them
            Heater core replaced, leak.
            Coolant over-flow tank replaced, leaked.
            all under warranty.

I replaced the front brakes and rotors at 13,000 (worn out) put on ceramic and at 37,000 they still look great.

New battery done in Feb. (it's Hot in the desert) Only Ford has battery $103.

Tires need to be replaced, if I can ever find a good paying job, been out for two years now.

Re: Extended Warranty expired and was offered a Ford used car warranty

Hi George - a little info from Mary and Me that you may find interesting. The warranty for our '02 bird that we purchased last year was for 4 yrs/48K miles from the start of our mileage which at the time was 4,170 miles - on the contract it reads the warranty is good for 4 years or up to 52,170 miles. The contract cost us $1345. We thought it was a great deal. As for the oil change, you may want to check w/your dealer. I just had our Taurus X done at ford and it was the same price you paid, but it was a synthetic blend-not a full synthetic. Full synthetics, from my experience are approx. $70 (-/+). Hopefully this is useful to you. If you have any questions, let us know. Carmino & Mary

              My deductable is $100.00

full coverage warranty is ( Ford ESP..Extended Service Plans ) premiumCARE

The oil change prices from Carmino are the same for me here in Washington St. approx $40.00 for the synthetic blend & $70 for the full synthetic.
At my last oil change I switched to the full synthetic and oddly I feel the Bird runs smoother, seems a little bit more quicker, less hesitant.
                Probably all in my head.

Re: Extended Warranty expired and was offered a Ford used car warranty

George, thanks for pointing this out. I have an extended warranty on my '03 which was added while the '03 was still under the factory warranty. I went the 3rd party route and am good till 2011. However never thought there was something available for a used car that was off the factory warranty. Once I get finished cleaning the undercarriage of the NM I will for sure look into this.

Re: Extended Warranty expired and was offered a Ford used car warranty

When I read up on Ford's ESP plans I aways come across the phrase 'starting at the original in-service miles'. I understand that to mean the milages & date the car first hit the pavement at the selling dealer.
                          Am I wrong?

I have a 05 purchase new November of 2004 with actual mileage at 5.
This November the Bird will be 5yrs. old with probably 37K miles.
Is there a Ford ESP plan that would fit?

This would be great to know.
