In fact I may look up that CT dealer and see if they offer the same, but discounted - If I can find their number.
Hi MatBird:

I am a finance and insurance manager at a Chicago area Ford dealer. Last month I helped a TBird owner (here on this forum) get a 48/48,000 Premium Care for his TBird, which had long since passed the 3yr/36,000 mile mark.

I'd be happy to get out my cost book and tell you what that cost is. If you like I can do the contract with you over the phone or give you information so you can shop your local dealer wisely. I'd prefer to do it myself because we're all TBird kin here, and it would help me win a warranty sales contest Ford is sponsoring. The cost is the same all over the country.

If you or any forum member has questions- here is my direct number at the dealership 630-925-7590. Leave a message with your return number if I am unavailable.

Call me at your convenience.

For a TBird under 40,000 miles, that price is way over cost $$$, call me. A little high for Tbird over 40,000 miles.

Re: Extended Warranty expired and was offered a Ford used car warranty

I just pruchased a 2004 T-bird from a Ford dealer. While the car only had 17,000 miles on it, I decided to get Ford's Extended Warranty. I paid $1500 for the Premium Extended Warranty with $100.00 deductible. 48 month / 48,000 miles.

This warranty covers everthing enigine, drive train, electronics, suspension components and shocks.

I have already taken advantage of the warranty. The car had rumbling noise in the rear suspension at low speed. the warranty covered the replacement of the sway bar links. It cost me a $100 for the repair work. I do not know the cost for the repair at regular prices. I have seen some posts stating this is a $300+ repair.

Definitely buy the Ford warranty. Good luck.

Re: Extended Warranty expired and was offered a Ford used car warranty

Here's a quick explanation of how I recently upgraded my warranty in 3 easy steps. I'll begin at the beginning:
**Sat., Sept. 29, 2007. Bought an '04 Retro at Castle Ford, Silver Spring MD. Used car with 28,540 miles on it. They offered 2 warranties without naming them, & I bought the higher-priced one, which turned out to be ExtraCare, for a mere $2135. Good for 48 months/48,000 miles; not sure about the deductible, it was never mentioned. The only paperwork I rcvd on ExtraCare was my credit card receipt, which contained no info, of course, about ExtraCare.
**Thur., July 10, 2008. On our way down to Savannah Thunder the a/c goes to blowing hot air only. Not cool.
**Fri., July 18, 2008. Took the car in to local dealer, University Ford, for 30,000-mile service. Mentioned a/c problem. They replaced "valve asy" (what you & I call the "ccv") & refrigerant R-134. Total (parts + labor): $431.95. This does not include routine maint. at the 30,000-mile interval.
**Mon., July 21, 2008. When I pick up car I tell service mgr I have warranty coverage. She says, Fine, but it doesn't cover faulty ccv. I'm shocked. I pay. A/c works fine.
**Tue., July 22, 2008. Check the dipstick. Way too much oil was put in.
**Wed., July 23, 2008. Return to Univ. Ford. They drain some oil.
**Fri., Dec. 19, 2008. Johnny TBird begins new thread: "Air condition/heater problem." His system, like mine 6 months earlier, is blowing hot.
**Tue., Dec. 23, 2008. Johnny TBird posts a message that gets my attention: "Problem fixed ... covered under extended warranty. Problem was heater control valve CC42 .. valve was replaced ... recharged complete system." (Italics mine.) I'm shocked once again: His ccv was covered, mine was not. What am I missing here?
**Late winter, 2009. Wife says low heat in pass.-side seat not working.
**Mon., July 20, 2009. Take car to Univ. Ford, ask about bun-warmer failure. Car is in shop for about an hour just for look-see. Estimate: $71 to repair it. I have warranty coverage, I say. Fine, she says, but you gotta pay for this one. I begin to rant & rave, mention my $2135 down the terlet, my warranty coverage which covers nothing, etc. She sends me across the lot to Jason's office. He's the F&I man, handles warranties. I explain my problem, he says upgrade from ExtraCare to Premium, which he'll sell me for $1895 (48/48000 w/ $100 deduct.). I say I'm coming up on the halfway point (2 years) on my $2135 policy, could he give me the remaining 2 years as a rebate. He says, No, Will, you have to get the rebate from the selling dealer (Castle Ford, Silver Spring, MD). Give them a call.
**Mon., July 27, 2009. I phone Castle Ford, get Susan in Finance, tell her I want to cancel my ExtraCare & apply the rebate to Premium. She says she's not allowed to do that, tells me to call ESP sales at Ford HQ (1-800-367-FORD). I call that number, young woman with Middle East accent says contact "Chapel Ford" (no such place), they will give me a pro-rated rebate & sell me a Premium. (This conflicts with what Jason said: He can't do the rebate.) I say goodbye. I find a thread on TBN that mentions Lombard Ford, Milford CT (866-379-7095). I call, tell the guy I'd like to upgrade for my 2004 'Bird. He says you can't upgrade, only downgrade, during the 3 yr/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper. (An '04 'Bird? The 3-yr bumper-to-bumper expired 2 yrs ago.) I thank him & say goodbye. Next, I talk to Lou Martun, TBN's inside man. He's the F&I person at a Ford dealer in Chicago, drives A Nifty 50, gives me some good advice & some numbers to look for but can't sell me an upgrade bc we're in different districts. We chat, as people often do, about Downers Grove, I say goodbye. Next, I call Hunt Ford, La Plata MD (1-877-934-8186), another Ford dealer mentioned on TBN. Talk to "Butch" Hunt. Says once I cancel my current ExtraCare at selling dealer, he'll sell me a Premium (48/48,000 w/ $100 deduct.) for $1381. I tell him I'll get right on it, say goodbye.
**Tue., July 28, 2009. Call Castle Ford, the selling dealer, talk to Susan in Finance once again. Tell her that all America seems to agree that it's okay for her to cancel my ExtraCare & send me a rebate. She says to fax her a letter stating this, along with VIN & a lot of other info.
**Mon., Aug. 3, 2009. I fax the letter to Susan.
**Thur., Aug. 6, 2009. I take the car in to Univ. Ford for 35,000-mile service, which is basically an oil change.
**Sat., Aug. 8, 2009. I check the dipstick. Way too much oil again.
**Mon., Aug. 10, 2009. I rcv check from Castle Ford: $1061.98, which is almost half my original $2135. I've used almost half (2 yrs) of my ExtraCare. The numbers seem to match, more or less. I'm shocked.
**Mon., Aug. 17, 2009. I take the car in to Univ. Ford. They drain some oil. While the car is worked on, I go see Jason, the F&I man. Tell him I followed his advice about writing to the selling dealer, cancelling Extracare & getting a rebate. Now I'm ready to buy Premium. I ask his price. He'll do 48/48000 ($100 deduct.) for $1895. I tell him I'll shop around. He asks what I have in mind. I say I have a quote for the same warranty at $1381. Jason says, Okay, $1381. I ask about a $50 deduct. & he says his price is $1586. I buy it. If we apply Castle Ford's rebate ($1061.98) to Jason's $1586, it looks like I have 4 yrs of Premium coverage for $524.02. He wanted the car inspected, of course, which he did for $40, although this thread says in a number of places that $100 is the going rate. Saved $60. I'm shocked.
I'm covered.
I'm finished.
I'm Will.

Can't say, mcd. All I can tell you is that with my car on a level surface & the engine cold, the oil level on the dipstick was up between the A & the X in the word MAX. Under those conditions (level & cold), as you know, the oil should not be higher than the upper end of the cross-hatched area on the dipper, according to the owner's manual.

A solution suggested by TBN folks in the know is: take the Retro to a Lincoln-Mercury dealer. It's the same as the Lincoln LS underneath & L-M mechanics see a lot more LS's than the Ford mechanics see Retros. I like the idea, but our local L-M dealership just went out of business a month ago due to the economy. The L-M was owned, by the way, by an NBA player you probably have heard of. It was Michael Jordan L-M. He played his college basketball here in Chapel Hill. His Nissan dealership is still in operation just across the boulevard from L-M. Anyhow, I'm still looking for a solution. Change the oil & filter myself, maybe.

In case someone isn't familiar with the situation ... too much oil in the engine causes 2 problems. One, at some point down the road when the oil is hot it will start to froth & foam; in this condition you no longer have effective motor oil & the engine could seize. Two, too much oil puts pressure from within on the engine's gaskets & seals, likely resulting in permanent leakage. In God We Trust ... but check your dipstick.

Hi Roger:

You got a fair price, but I want to offer some notes here for all TBN folks FWIW.

Last week 2K2Bird contacted me about the Ford Premuim Care, exactly what you detailed above. His situation was slightly different in that his TBird has over 40,000 miles on it, which moves the price structure up. 40,000 miles is the break point for ESP pricing.

Retail for our TBirds on the Premium ESP 48/48,000 is:
<40,000 miles = $1,895
>40,000 miles = $2,230

Anyway, I sold 2K2Bird his ESP for $1,630. Had he been under 40,000 miles my price would have been, $1,295.

Again, you got a fair price for all that Premium Care covers, which is virtually everything but the mainteance and damage issues.
