  • actual value vs. bluebook

    OK,
I need to start determining the value of my Bird. Upon looking at kelley blue book values and reading some of these posts I get the feeling the Kelley Blue book values, both retail and ,more importantly for me, trade-in values are a little on the high side. As my purchase price will be somewhat based on trade-in value I need to find an accurate number. Of course a dealer would help and I have a friend who is one but I would prefer to do some research on my own. Any thoughts?

Look for comparable sales of the configuration you are interested in in the same area you live. Geography counts. Are you buying or selling?

I'm buying, (from my mother). As far similiar configurations for previous sales...there are none. One black one, not even a 2005, in the whole county much less region. Not a whole lot of retro-birds in this part of the U.P. Thanks for the help all. Its always nice to have people with more knowledge available. I can't wait to get the car and get actual car questions answered!

I would ignore Kelly completely. It's only used by used car dealers so they can say "$x,xxx below Blue Book". Edmunds and NADA are the ones to look at.

Looking through various used car and value sites, it looks like the average '05s are asking $20-$25k range. Of course, if you're buying from your mother, you should give her as little as possible

I thinks that's what I would do and then share the information with your mother to come up with a price that's fair to both of you.

It will be something special to have your dad's last car; especially something as nice as a 2005 Thunderbird from the 50th anniversary year.

How many miles? I just bought a Neiman Marcus with 1,700 miles on it for 24. I would think a realistic price for an '05 would be in the 18 - 22 range for your basic bird depending on mileage and condition. Some are selling for more - what does Kelly's say?

It has around 19,000 on it w/a hard top 50th anniversary edition. I hopefully will be getting it for less than trade in value so trade-in numbers are what I am concerned with. When the time comes I'll get some trade in numbers and we will figure it out from there. Thanks for the help everyone. I will take the average of Nada,Edmunds and some quotes from dealers and go from there.
