Perhaps you could rent instruments for the week from a music shop? Be careful of placing a lot of weight in the roof well as you may tear the fabric lining.

Ship the stuff & drive the bird...

I've seen removable luggage racks that might work too. The trouble is finding one that fits a bird...

Invite a friend along on the trip and him/her drive the gear in your other car

A good Tuesday morning to all,

Desicion made. Last night I tried a mock pack and that drum is bigger than I thought when you get it next to a two seater. The drum won't fit in the roof well behind the seats and it won't even lie in the trunk with the trunk closed.

Drum stays home, guitar does fit nicely in the roof well and therfore leaves the trunk free for the folded kite and everything else. (Except Rachel of course, that's what the other seat is for).

Should be nice if we get lucky with the weather. Looking forward to it.
            Gordon.

2 people can travel for a week on my motorcycle. You just have to pack the bare necessities. For me, the T-bird has way more room than I need.

Once you introduced kites, drums and guitars.. I was thinking "mini van". LOL
Seems you got it worked out. For vacation, you made the right choice, take the T-bird, travel lighter. Enjoy the weather.

Seems like you have it worked out. Have a good time. I would love to hear you play sometime.

I'm so glad to hear everything has worked out for the drive. I still regret not taking "birdy" to the beach this year. We went back in July and took the Taurus cause my sister wouldn't take our beach chairs and big cooler this year! Shame on her, she'l usually so nice to me!!!!!
Anyway, it was ok but I really missed the bird. Have a ton of fun and take lots of pics for us!
THUNDER & GOOD VIBRATIONS: IT WAS FUN FUN FUN,

                    Hi there,

Beach chairs, cooler. Whoops, forgot about them...

I have found actually that two foldy chairs and one guitar will fit fairly neatly into the empty roof well. No cooler on this trip. Just means the first trip out when we get there is to the nearest supermarket. Luckily we will have a fridge to use.

Course, the only drawback to doing it this way is that we will have to make the whole trip there and back with the top up. Most of this will be on interstate anyway so that's no big deal. The main thing is to have the top down for some nice coastal cruisin once we get there.

                    Thanks ya'll, Gordon.

--ahhh...that's the nature of the beast, that is, the two seater classic II T-Bird. Some of us have to make sacrifices once in a while. Decisions, decisions...

Put the guitar and kite in the trunk, pack the bare necessities around them, stop when it's loaded. Drive with the option of top up or down. Buy a couple of cheap $11.00 beach chairs at the local Walgreen's when you get there. At the end of the week, leave the chairs there. Someone else will gladly take them off your hands

Re: WHICH CAR TO TAKE, Hmmmm?

Hey, some excellent ideas there Brad. Only thing is, there are some wives who don't understand that term, "bare nessesities". Can't blame it all on Rach though, it is me taking up most of the space with my kite and guitar.

Just to keep things in perspective, this is not really a problem, it's really just more of a talking point. Like one of the earlier posts mentioned, it is one of the nicer kind of problems to have.

My main problem now is can I get the kite back together without getting all the strings tangled. All I need now is "Tales from Margaritaville". I've read a few Buffet books but not this one, (and some good sunny and windy weather).

                          Gordon.

WalMart has a nice cooler - holds a 6 pack of drinks (cans or bottles) - AND additonal stuff - has a liner to keep food sandwiches etc out of the ice. Sells for about $10.00 and the main feature is it sits between the seats on the shelf by the speakers. Comes in Red or Blue .

Have a great trip - know you are going to love having the bird on the beach - I have not had a chance to check out the kite site but will as soon as I can -

As a Parrothead, for some time - have you read "A Salty Piece of Land" not as good as the Joe Merchant series, but a good read for the beach.

                                Hi there,

Yes Mike, I've read the 'Salty Piece of Land' and really enjoyed it. Ten minutes ago I just ordered ' Tales from Margaritaville' from Amazon which should be some nice light reading for the beach. After that I'll move onto the Joe Merchant book. Not to forget a few good car mags..

                                Cheers, Gordon.
