Re: What to look for when buying a used Tbird?

After 10 to 12 months of searching , it took a lot of research (Dot,s site is great ) and leg work . Be prepared to take a trip if the right car presents its self .I drove a lot of t-birds with low miles that were a "P.O.S.",higher milage cars --- some were better . To me its how they were cared for . I would stay away from lease or program cars . When I found my bird I found that the oil had Mobil ! every 3000 miles , that said a lot to me !

Carfax. Make sure the seller provides info on cops and the warranty letter. If over 30k have transmission, wheel bearings checked. Personally, I would not buy one without full DEALER records and dealer info. If the car was cared for by a dealer all the records are in the computer. If the previous owners loved the car all the paper work should be available. Best questions, and best anwers(if you can get them) are why did the previous owners sell?

Given the mileage we commonly see my guess is the answer is 'we never drove it.'

Bob, there is another possibility about the musty smell and the driving will help clear it out. There is a cabin air filter below the passenger side cowl (inside the engine compartment) and it's recommended to change it every 15,000 miles. The one you're looking at may not have had the filter changed.
The filter is good to be reminded about...My 2002 has 19500 miles now and
i have not changed my filter yet...but I will now...Thanks!

Assuming Vintage Merlot is right... most Birds can be converted to a merlot model just by pouring judicious amounts of merlot wine on the paint, canvas top and leather interior. And, you don't have to pay the higher Merlot prices to buy one!

                  Bottoms up!

                  Thanks
