  • ENGINE PING

I have been experiencing a ping when accelerating. Does not happen when first starting out when cold but when engine warms up. Only use premiun gas. Sounds exactly like pre-ignition. Has any one else had this problem? I did not notice this until recently. Car has 7K miles.

7000 miles and it pings? If I was fortunate enough to have a car like that i would just take it to the dealer. Full accent 05's in classic colors with garage mileage should be only handled by Ford certified mechanics and all receipts should be kept in a leather bound three ring binder in archival sleeves. IMHO

Hey Ron. Add some Techron to your fuel tank. Not the junk with additives, but the "real" techron form Chevron, sold at all auto suppliers: Autozone, etc. Then switch to Chevron Gas. or Shell. It will help clean out any sulfur accumuated from this wondeerful 10% enthenol that they have ALL added to there gas blends.

        Re: ENGINE PING

If you are using prem gas you should not be getting pinging. All the electronics to prevent pinging should trip a check engine light if faulty so this is strange. Now, it could be that with the diluted gas (ethanol) you may have picked up some that was old for the “shelf life” mixed gas is not long at all. Naturally, being Florida you have seasonal mixed gas as well and that too can cause problems.

As a suggestion, disconnect the battery for a good while, at least 30 minutes, so as to force the ECM to reload when the battery is reconnected with factory settings – in other words, starting at point zero. If this does not help then I would run my tank down to nothing and then refill with a tier 1 prem gas to see if that will resolve the issue. The following are tier 1 gas retailers (yes, gas is gas BUT the add packs make the difference):

        QuikTrip
        Chevron
        Texaco
        MFA Oil Co.
        Conoco
        Phillips 66
        76
        Entec Stations
        Shell
        The Somerset Refinery, Inc.
        Kwik Trip / Kwik Star
        Aloha Petroleum
        Tri-Par Oil Co.
        Turkey Hill Minit Markets
        Mileage Stations
        Road Ranger
        Chevron Canada
        Shell Canada
        Petro-Canada
        Sunoco Canada

Some may be surprised as to the major brands not on this list.

No surprise here. All Gas is NOT equal. One other off the cuff note. Never Never ever, get gas at any station that is in the process of filling there tanks. The pressure that the fill with stirs up all the settimint in their tanks.

Seems I remember a thread that stated something about getting engine ping if an off brand oil filter was used - it has something to do with a valve in the filter. Are you using Motorcraft oil filter?

Maybe someone else can enlighten us on the use of off brand oil filters.

Sandman, with only 7,000 miles on the car, how old is this gas in the tank?

gas goes bad in about 60 to 90 days so that maybe your problem.
There are some additives you can put in the NEW gas that will help sustain it for a while longer, but it will not rejuvenate old gas.

If you have old gas in the tank and the tank is 1/2 full or less, fill it up with a name brand premium fuel amd get some injector clean additive and drive the car to empty the tank. Do not drive it at full throtle do not make the engine pink.

Then just pit in a few gallons of new gas and see if the pinking is gone.

Do not keep a lot of gas in a car's fuel tank that you do not drive often. keep it at 1/4 or 1/8 a tank and put in some fuel stablizer.

Hey guys, don't get too concerned about Ron. He'd be kicking if he was playing football. Some of us are more sensitive than others. For most of us with that problem at that mileage, we would have been on the dealers door step YESTERDAY.

No offense Ron, you know that we love you.

One other thing - -How come you haven't registered for the upcoming Florida Cruise/Poker Run yet?
