    Re: T-Bird Speeding Tickets

83 mph in a 60 for CARTOY in 2007 on my way to the farm.

Lots of close calls while caravaning with TBN members, even pulled over once...thank the Lord for hand held radios!
Sounds more convincing when the occupants of three cars to be telling the same story!

    "Who Sir??? Not US, Sir!!!
"Well, maybe a 'tad' over the limit...."

      Re: T-Bird Speeding Tickets

      Hi there,

Have not had one yet in FLYAWAY, our black bird. Came very close one time when I was heading up Hwy 60, Cleveland Hwy from Dalton to Cleveland. I was late and on my way to pick up the grand kids for the weekend. This is a particularly nice stretch of road passing through farmland and is almost all straight and level.

Anyway, the speed limit is 55 and I was heading north doing around 70 when I suddenly realize that one of the cars coming the opposite way is a cop car. I quickly slow down to 55 but too late, I see in the rear view mirror the cop doing a u-turn and soon he is behind me with his lights flashing.

We pull off the road and the first thing he asks is, " Do you know the speed limit on this stretch of road" ? Real quick I say, "I think it's 60, I just saw a sign back there". At this point he just bursts out laughing and says," I can tell by that accent that you're not from round here. That sign back there with a 60 on it was the road number, ha, ha. Lucky for you we're not on Hwy 95" Then more laughing......

I of course knew this and acted all innocent and foreign for a while. It worked because he let me off and just told me to stick to 55. Then he said, "Nice car by the way".

That was a close one. I have had two tickets driving our Infiniti FX though.

      Gordon.

          Re: T-Bird Speeding Tickets

Coming back from visiting my daughter in July '03, I40 eastbound from Cookeville, TN at 4:00am. I'm in the "slow" lane and a Honda Civic is passing me. Came over the hill, blue lights in the median, glanced down, Holy crap! 90mph in a 70mph zone. I slow down and start to pull over, Trooper pulls up beside me, turns on the interior light, shakes his finger at me and then proceeds to go get the Honda. Kept it at about 72 or so all the way to Bristol.......

Never a ticket in my 49 years on the road but came close once while doing 70 in a 65 zone on I-70 in Ohio. Trooper asked if I had been cited for speeding in Ohio within the past 12 months. Responded I had never been cited for anything anywhere during my then 45 years on the road. Trooper shook his head and walked away saying it was too late to start now.

I had the same finger at me on the 401 speeding and eating the golden arches breakfast but did not pulled over.

Anyone get caught doing 7 in a 5 at the Mall parking lot? It's an old Drew Carey joke, I think.

Got my first TBird ticket this summer in the wonderful state of Virginia...speed trap six miles from the North Carolina border on I-95...once you hit NC the MPH goes up to 70 from 65...OK I was doing 80 so I would have technically still been speeding in NC but I'm sure the NC State Troopers would have realized that I was driving a Thunderbird and would have just let it go...right? NC is not as uptight as VA...Just glad I don't have a red TBird, I heard the fines are double for those.

                    Re: T-Bird Speeding Tickets

Back in March I was coming into the Loganville city limits when a very loud Mustang came up beside me and got on and off the gas. I kicked the 'Bird down a gear and moved out in front just in time to hear the detector blare and see the local cop just alongside the city limit sign.

Both the Mustang driver and I got waved over. I was ticketed for 74 in a 45 and that is a mandatory court appearance.

On court day the place was packed. Apparently the cops were out in force in early March to try and offset the declining revenues in the city coffers. There were so many speeders caught that the judge had to make an announcement.

He said that all those who had been ticketed and were willing to plead guilty to driving eleven miles over the limit and pay a $150 fine could just line up at the cashier and pay the fine. That would make my violation just 56 mph and would not go on my record. Most of us raced to the window to pay the fine but this time the Mustang driver beat me.

                      Re: T-Bird Speeding Tickets

Just got my first ticket in probably 10 years or more. 72 in a 60mph zone on U.S.17 about 140 miles north of Chesapeake. I was trying to stay Good but the go fast pedal beckoned just before a slight rise which concealed "Smokie" in the median. The state of Virginia does not allow Radar detectors, so mine was in the glove box.

                      Cal

                      P.S. $61 plus $5 per mph over the limit = $121. fine.

So far none with either car. When I had my '93 GTP I was pulled over plenty.First reaction from the P.D. "what are you doing driving this and do you know how fast you were going".With a "heads up" display no .What saved me was a mini N.Y.C.P.D. badge with numbers .They are given by someone on the force as a courtesy .One night while going through Amittyville L.I. at 85 I was stopped (it's a 25mph town) .The officer saw the shield and a PBA card I had. That stop cost me the PBA card.
