    Re: T-Bird Speeding Tickets

Came close once about six years ago. On a tiny little country road very close to where I live now. I was late for a tee-time and was pushing it. I was very aware the limit was 45. I was running somewhere between 70 & 75 when I came over a slight rise in the road. There was a county officer headed the other direction. He flashed his lights, but kept going. I got the message and slowed down.

Little town (Forest Park) inside Oklahoma City--47 in 35 zone---that was a $90.00 free lunch at the bosses country club. 15AGAIN was less than six months old.

        Re: T-Bird Speeding Tickets

I've had a few close calls but no tickets so far. The problem is that if you don't use the cruise control the speed just kinda creeps up on you and before you know it your doing 85 or 90. The car seems to settle in good at these speeds.

Haven't had one in my '05 yet (hope this doesn't jinx me for the Choo Choo trip), but my first ticket ever (out of many more to follow...) was in an '86 Bird at the ripe old age of 17. 100 in a 55. The Trooper stormed up to my window and yelled "Are you tired of livin'?" I was on my way home from college to surprise my Dad for his birthday. He was surprised, all right.

Same here. I have a Indiana Veteran Plate on 3 of my vehicles, the Bird, the Z-71, and of course my 1948 Willys CJ21A. I got them at the same time so they're in numerical order, 6036, 6037, 6038. Easy to remember. The downside is mine were an additional $35.00 each, but the money is supposed to go to a State Veterans Fund? I've had them come out of nowhere and get right on my rear bumper and then back-off, it had to be the plate. Leroy

Three tickets in50 years of driving. First when I was just out of graduate school on a mountain road in the Berkshires (Mass.) The second in Virginia on a LONG trip from Fla. to Cape Cod.

The third one was the hardest to endure. In the Bird, going 65 in a 55 mph zone on a deserted divided 4 lane highway in Central Florida. Pulled over by a local female motorcycle cop, (radar). She admired the bird while she was writing the ticket ($173 - ouch). She drove me crazy fawning over my Bird - "nice wheels", "beautiful car", "I really do like this car", "Wow,I never stopped one of these before", "very sporty", "This must be fun to drive", etc., etc. I sat silently fuming while she was sticking it to me, all smiles. Boy, was that hard to take. It was like adding insult to injury. You can guess what I thought of her when I was driving away.

Well, lemme see, I got one near Milledgeville GA doing 78 in a 55 and my wife got one doing 78 in a 55 coming down off Monteagle on her way home from work. She was pulled over with 2 other cars. Funny thing she went to court and the judge let her off after a 10 min conversation with her. Seems he was from Ringold where she works and liked that she works for Children Protective Services for the state of GA.

see I have a diffrent take on speeding. Yes I have gotten them but never more than 5-6 over. I deserved everyone I got no excuses.
As for people claiming "the cop was just harassing me!, the city needs money" your all wrong. I have a family full of Police Officers. My Friends are Police Officers. What they are doing is there job...protect and server. They are protecting you from yourself and those others who are obeying the law. The one thing I have alwasy understood in life is everyone is the victim! The truth is somewhere in the middle. THose that say I got pulled over for no reason are looking for sympathy and should just be honest. You were breaking the law. It may have only been 5-10 over yet it was still OVER the limit. My family and friends say the same thing. When they have pulled someone over they are more apt to write a ticket if the driver is acting like "no I have no idea why you pulled me over" If your honest..."Yes officer I know I was speeding." You more apt to get a warning. A. because they respect honest people and B. they are sick of hearing peoples bullsh*t all day long making excuses for there bad behavoir!

                    Just my two cents!

I confess it was I that Sixpac was following when --we-- got our tickets. That is the only time I have got a ticket in the bird. I was in a hurry to have fun with all T-Bird friends. Hey would anybody like to follow me to Choo-Choo Thunder and try your luck????

Hey, Shon, most of us haven't offered excuses. I took my lumps and went on. Truthfully, it was probably payback for all times I speeded and didn't get a ticket. All in all, I'm still ahead. I agree about the BS stories and think I'd get tired of them too. Regards.

Well, I certainly wasn't making excuses in my post. I do, however, have a reason to complain about a cop that says he "heard" how fast I was going, it "seemed" I was going over the limit, and that I need a new muffler.
                          A. I wasn't speeding at 5 under the limit, B. I do NOT need a new muffler, and C. those 2 cops need re-training. Oh, and D. I'm paying their salary! There is absolutely no excuse for the things they said to me, but I will chalk it up to their obvious inexperience (I don't think either one of them was over the age of 21).

Now, in defense of the fine Virginia Hwy Patrol, some of you said you got your tickets in our great Commonwealth, so here's a little warning if you're passing through this holiday weekend... they are doing border checks on all major highways in & out of VA, and they are issuing tickets for things as minor as not wearing a seatbelt or no front license plate (as well as more serious infractions). Y'all be careful out there!

I can somewhat support what Skozzy says. I was headed to Brunswick in my company car in rural south Ga. I came up on a local farmer poking along in his pickup. I swung out around him passing him on the double yellow line. Didn't see the Trooper sitting about half a mile up ahead. He pulled out after I passed him and hit his lights. I immediatly pulled over and when he got to my door and asked me if I knew why he stopped me I answered yes it was probably my pass on the yellow line. He let me off with a warning which I greatly appreciated. So it was either my truthfulness or the GPC logo plastered on the side of the car that got me off with a warning. My advice is to stay calm, be respectful, and truthful.

                              Hi there,

It's kinda funny and ironic that there's this thread about 'T-bird Speeding Tickets' then just a few threads further down there's, ' How Fast Can it Go'? That one is full of " I got it to 143 mph before the limiter cut in".

Seems stupid to me to be driving a T-bird that fast when the limit is 70 mph. Maybe on a race track but shoud'nt really be happening on public roads. It's built for cruisin in really. Like I mentioned, I've had a few tickets but I reckon anyone caught doing over 100 mph should lose their right to drive for a year and get a brown mark on their license for sh*t driving. Ha,ha.
                              Have a safe weekend, Gordon.
