  • T-Bird Speeding Tickets

I'm curious to how many of us will fess up to getting speeding tickets in our retro T-Birds. I'll start out.

I got a speeding ticket in Georgia while following our good friend...........from Alabama (maybe he'll fess up).

The cops like red birds. No tickets here.

Got the first one in 40 years the 3rd time I drove it - less than a mile from home. Gave me a whole new appreciation of COPS problems.

      None since.

George retired in 2003. He hadn't had a speeding ticket in about 10 years. So, the next thing I know, 3 years in a row, he gets a ticket. Just as he'd get past the one year mark for towing the line, he'd goof off, and get one - twice in the blue bird and once in the Inca. He's been good or lucky since, only getting a warning last fall while driving the Inca.

Talked my way out of 2 in the last 3 weeks while driving Moondoggie. I knew I wasn't speeding, but the Borlas where calling out... First cop said, "I heard how fast you were going"...what the cat-hair...now they can HEAR how fast you're going? All I said was, "Nice try. Try again". He admitted, "it seemed you were travelling faster than the posted limit." It seemed??? I asked him to show me proof, and all he said was, "maybe you should drive more carefully, ma'am." Bite me.

Second time, cop pulled me over...I KNOW I was doing 40 in a 45 zone. Cop, "Do you know how fast your were driving?"..."Yes, I do. I was doing 40 in a 45 zone". Cop - "I could write you up you know, but I'll just let you off with a warning for now." I asked, "Write me up for WHAT?" His answer..."You need a new muffler."

And "he" (no not he, but his lovely wife) paid the ticket for us.

Did anyone have to sit in the backseat of the squad car with Julie?

I knew Stan would speak up on this thread. Wish we had a pic of him on the back seat of a COP car in Arkansas.

                      Re: T-Bird Speeding Tickets

I got one in Alabama doing about 83 on the way to Heartland Thunder, and got stopped with Gary Homes in Arkansas, but we talked our way out of that one.

Then just after Jeanne bought me the radar detector, she asked to use it in her car one day. I took the bird out that day too and guess what ... BAM!!!!!!! Ticked for 75 in a 60. GRRRRRRRRRRR She doesn't ask to borrow it any more.

Proof is in the avatar.......!! Good thing I didn't get stopped in the Stang going to see her for the first time. I have a photo to prove I would have had "Three Hots and a Cot". that night.

Rosebud was just 6 months old when we got stopped for 15 over in a very good radar trap. He was a Sheriff that worked for the Public Works Dept., not the Sheriff’s Dept. He was very conceded and proud of himself for stopping a sports car. We talked for a bit and he dropped the ticket to 5 over. For budget reasons Public Works Dept. has rent a cop’s so the Sheriff’s can keep officers on other duties and the county can still get Federal dollars for road repairs. My last ticket was 30 years ago on a Motor Cycle.

Did I mention I have a perfect non-record - for 45 years. I will admit that I do speed on occasion but I'm much more cautious about when & where I do it.
