  • Unexpected Birthday gift.

Before I tell you about the gift, I have on my "Flame Suit" because the purist will surely have a heart attack!!!

For some time I have wanted to pinstripe the Thunderbird, but kept changing my mind. I finally contacted the man that pinstripes the cars in the Coker Tire Museum and we were trying to arrange a time to get my car done this month. I got "cold feet" and decided not to do it.

To make a long story short, Mildred decided pinstripes would be a good birthday present. At the suggestion of our son-in-law we went to Bryson City, NC to see "Scarecrow". www.scarecrowart.com He can do some unbelievable things with a paint brush. He loads several colors on the brush at once and creates images that have a 3D effect and change colors as you view from different angles. It is called Sumi-E art and originated in China centuries ago.

He did my pinstripes and then wanted to do his interpretation of a Thunderbird on the hood scoop. I finally gave in and when it was done it looked great. The pictures don't do his work justice. I know many of you won't like it, but I feel I have a signed copy of a unique artwork. (His signature is near the gas cap..)

Boy that hood scoop picture is real close to the logo of the "High Plains Thunderbirds" from Amarillo, TX. I think Dot has a pic of there logo on her web site if your interested in seeing.

P.S. I like it on your hood scoop.

The pinstriping looks good; the art work isn't for me.

That is a great piece of art Ken. You sure have a unique Bird now.

Awesome, Ken! You and Mildred are going to have to come to Choo-Choo so we can see it in person. I love the redline tires, too!

No flames from me, everything looks great! I loved the big bird on the 70's Trans Ams hoods, so your Thunderbird on the hood scoop looks great to me!

Please show us a side pic of the scoop Ken. I too would like to see what it is. I have always been a fan of pin striping. We had a guy here in the 60's & 70's called himself the Mad Striper. He did some good stuff also. And I think a white car just screams for striping.

Looks good Ken. I wasn't crazy about the bird in the "straight on" photo; but it looks excellent when you see it in perspective on the car as in this last side shot photo. Gives your car a great custom look.
