  • 04 PCR or 05 Cashmere? Which Would You Choose?

    Hi Guys:

Some time back, for reasons I won't bore you with, I sold my 05 Cashmere T'Bird and I am now in the market for another T'Bird!

My question is this: If you were in the market and were trying to choose between a 04 PCR or a 05 Cashmere, which would you choose and why?

Assume both as new, both identical low miles and both identical price.

Also, is one of these two colors likely to hold it's price better than the other?

    I value your opinions.

    Thanks - Roger

Re: 04 PCR or 05 Cashmere? Which Would You Choose?

I would buy another PCR over the CASHmere if I had it to do over.
      • I love the two-tone look with the hardtop
      • I love the interior color combo
      • Suede inserts are cooler [but are starting to show wear]
      • The CASHmere looks gray from a distance [looks good up close]
      • The interior of the CASHmere not as striking as the PCR's
      • CASHmere's top being same as the car does not draw as much notice. I get more comments with the PCR's hardtop on than with the top down. You just don't see many two-tone cars and that draws a lot of attention.
Ok that said, he asked for my opinion and I gave it. It's is not to be construed as any flaming of CASHmere's.

I would rather have the 05 because:

        1. It's a year newer.

        2. It's a true 50th Aniversery Car.

        3. Better Seats

It is hard to predict "collectibility". If so, everyone owning a 55-57 Bird in the early 60s would of hung onto them. We don't actually know right now.

"California" (Mustangs) and Pac Coast editions have always done well for Ford.

Note: There's more Cashmeres out there. Actually, PCE's are rather uncommon on the East Coast. Here...I see more Cashmeres than PCEs. Of course, there are 500 more Cashmeres made than PCEs, too.

If I was looking for a collectible car, I would actually go after the 007 Coral version. The name always stands for something with James Bond fans more than Nieman Marcus has loyalty among shoppers.... even though the NM version only had 200 units versus 700 for the 007 version.

I never have been to every Nieman Marcus store...in fact, I have not been to even 1 store. But, I have seen every James Bond movie!!!

I would buy the car because you like the color. Period. My wife liked the Cashmere color more than some other colors (including PCE). It became simple... I picked the car... she picked the color.

I fully expect Cashmere to depreciate for many years to come. I will drive it and enjoy it now.

              Pick one and enjoy it!
              Thanks

I'd buy the one I liked best. Drive it. Maintain it. Replace it when needed with one somebody had been "saving" the miles on but never really enjoyed to the fullest because it was in their garage or being trailered instead of driven.

We have 2 retro birds. One RED new in 03 and wifes 05 new Cashmere. Side by side the red gets more lookers as it is very sharp, but cashmere kinda glows different colors at different time of day. Leather in cashmere will not stay as clean as red. The PCR ash I have not seen an interior with wear so I can not judge. The PCR is a very attractive vehicle going down the road. We have several here in Austin, they stay hidden most of the time.
End result is purchase what you like and first impressions are always good.
Mileage and condition would also come into my choice.

As far as collectability, my crystal ball predicts red or black 05's with full accents as being the ones that people will want. Look at the 55-57 Birds and the "wierd" color ones are not at a premium at all and are actually cheaper. You can always sell a red roadster. The "Thunderbird blue" 02's in full accent are also a good bet.

...Well Roger...you've already owned a Cashmere.....The Cashmere is not an exclusive T-Bird colour.....Can't get used to the painted grille....so I'm thinking the PCR....also the interior isn't quite as light as the Cashmere relative to soiling issues....Cheers!

                        Roger,

We all have our favorite color, but really, in my opinion, there is not a bad color for a retro bird. The main thing I can say is I agree with Paul, drive it and enjoy it! The car is just too much fun – no matter the color. Ours is a daily driver and it really makes me feel good when someone comments about the bird, and I really think they are commenting on the car, and not so much the paint, however, your having owned a cashmere in the past you know that does come up. It just puts a smile on your face, no matter what kind of day your having.

The most frequent comment I hear about my car is on the color!
I think there are just sooo many red and black rag-tops
that the the color o a PCR makes the car stand out.

I've been going through a similar situation lately, and still am a little. The folks here have helped a lot.
I've driven and checked out a PCR and it's a classy looking car. Still has the wow factor but in an understated way. The cashmere is also a beautiful car. Though I've only seen one, And it's a true 50 year anniversary model. You really can't go wrong with either! You've already owned a cashmere. So...try the PCH? I did find the faux suede inserts on the PCR a little disappointing. The ones I saw were showing wear after 37K miles. Why didn't Ford put in a lighter gray leather for contrast? It would have worn much better. had a similar effect.

                              Good Luck
