  • Extended Warranty Added to our 2002 - Thanks, Lou!

Just wanted to publicly thank one of our members, Lou Martuneac (TBN name - lmartun) for facilitating us being able add a Ford ESP Premium Care extended warranty on our almost 8 year old Thunderbird for a reasonable cost.

Lou is the finance and insurance manager at a Chicago area Ford dealer and is happy to help out fellow T-bird owners by selling them a warranty for as close to cost as possible. Besides that, he is a heck of a nice guy and great to work with. I highly recommend anyone with a T-bird that has under 60K miles and needs added warranty coverage send him a pm or give him a call at 630-925-7590. He'll get back with you and do his best to provide you the coverage that you need for a great price.

I'm sleeping with more peace of mind tonight knowing that there is less of a chance of being robbed if repairs are needed over the next four years of T-bird ownership. Thanks again, Lou!!

Yes, I agree. It's money well spent with the costs of repairs for these cars. Leroy

Tim, I don't think they cost more than other cars. Friends with other makes and models complain about the high cost to repair their cars

Thanks, Pat. It is nice to have the protection in place.

I think Michael is correct that our cars don't really cost any more than other modern cars to repair. They are all very expensive .... primarily due to the sophisticated electronics and mechanical part involved. There is probably a multitude of parts on this car (or any car for that matter) that cost as much as the warranty does, not to mention the labor charges to install them. Odds are one of them is going to fail sooner or later. If that happens then the money spent on the warranty is recovered. Heaven forbid, but, if two of them fail in the next 4 years then we are going to be well ahead of the game.

              Thanks Doubutsu,
I was a little worried that the T'bird was a tempermental car.
People here put a very high premium on the extended warranty, Which goes against most things that I have read up to now. It seems the general consensus is that an extended warranty is a play heavily in favor of the dealer/car company - and avoid it.. I have read this in Money magazine and Consumer Reports among others.
That being said I am planing on getting an extended warranty based on all the comments from the folks here. You are the ones that actually own T'birds. I'd gone 54 years and never had an extended warranty until I bought a new ford ranger. I had to get it to get the low interest rate. It's up next year and the car has been bullet proof. Chalk one up for the dealer.

Tim, I never had an extended warranty for the simple fact I never kept a car for more than two years. My 05 is now 41/2 years old. I always thought these warranties were for chumps and I bought mine only after giving it a lot of thought, hope I never need to use it. I'm sure Paul got a better deal than I did but people like Paul are deserving of these deals

I don't know about that; I'm not all that special to anyone but my Mom, Dad, the grandkids and sometimes Rosetta (rarely, I'm thinking).

The nice thing is that Lou is willing to work with any of the members here to get a decent price on the warranty. If anyone needs one - I'd say check him out.

Wow! Thanks, I'm nearly moved to tears. Seriously, though it was my pleasure to help you out. Cost of repairs today can be quite pricy and the Ford ESP protects against those high costs.

                        Tim/All:

I always appreciate Consumer Report (CR) magazine right up until they tell folks don't invest in an extended warranty. If you don't shop and compare wisely you can get burned. That aside, CR is not going to write the check for you when and if your A/C quits ($742, plus labor) or for a computer module that costs $1,371 for the part alone.

If I was selling washing machines I wouldn't waste my time showing a warranty to our customers. Cars, however, are a whole different matter when repair issues arise as they inevitably do.

I agree with Lou and to some extent, Tim.
We bought the extended warranty for our 02 and 05. The 02 warranty more than paid for itself in repairs that had to be made however we drove our car to the fullest, reaching warranty limits due to mileage not age. We have an extended policy on our 05 but have not had to use it yet and I hope we don't have to but it does give us some peace of mind that any major problem it may have in the next few years, has been prepaid.

However, many owners just don't seem to drive theirs and will probably never know their car had a weak part until after even an extended warranty would have reached it's limit so for them, it may not be a wise investment.

I'm glad that Ford has offered a used car warranty for those low mileage cars that get sold to 2nd or 3rd owners who may intend to use the car more frequently.

I had a C.O.P. to go out in my 2002 bird. I had it repaired yesterday at a cost of $137.74.

I haven't had a bit of trouble with my '02, but have still like the idea of having the warranty just in case. I'm sending off a payment to Lou tomorrow to extend for another 48mo/48K miles, which will take me to 2013 and 64K miles total
Do you know the difference between education and experience?
Education is when you read the fine print; experience is what you get when you don't.
