  • Current Value of '03 '007' ??

    OK Guys:

Some of you talked me in to looking at a '03 007.

If I found a perfect 1 owner 007 with, say, 10K to 15K miles, what would be a fair price to pay? Fair, that is, for both me and the seller.

    Thanks, as always. - Roger

Ebay Item # 220479093977 is a 007 number 14 of 700 in Cedar Rapids,IA. It's got 14,986 miles and no warranty. Private seller says it's perfect. Buy-it-Now for $28,500.00, opening bid is $28,500.00. So far no bids, only 8 days left, so hurry. Leroy

Interesting. That's the one that Bob Walker used to own. He kept in in excellent condition before selling it, even using aftermarket wheels so the originals don't have as many miles on them as the car does.

Per kbb.com these are suggested retail prices assuming 12,000 miles and excellent condition. Of course you will pay less than this, but it does give you some feel for the value of "special editions".

2002 $18,775 no value given for NM

        2003 $ 21,350; 007 $32,900

        2004 $ 23,775; PCR $27,500

        2005 $ 26,990; 50th Anniv $31,315

NADA rates an 03 TBird with 15000 miles and a hard top at $23,762.00 retail and $20,281.00 trade-in values, no mention of the 007. I don't have alot of faith in NADA or KBB. Your car is only worth what you can get for it and the better you take care of it the more it's worth. If someone wants that 007 for $28,500.00 bad enough they'll buy it. Leroy

Someone is going to get a beautiful 2005 Torch Red w/tan top and light sand interior. It has 5 days left on ebay and has only 6,250 miles. So far bids are up to $19,100 and the reserve has not been met. If I didn't have "Annie", boy I sure would like this one!

Maybe it was Edmunds or Kelley or maybe I'm just mistaken, but I seem to recall not too long ago, there was no distinction between any of the limited edition Birds and all others in the value ratings. Is this something new?

All 2005s are 50th Anniv. I would be shocked if anyone got in excess of $23k for an 05 or any "normal edition" even if under 5k miles and perfect

For What it is Worth ...

My #264 sold for $24k with 16k miles which had paint and body work (which I did not know about either until after I purchased it) at Crossroads Ford here in March.

I pity the poor b*st*rd that got taken on that lemon.

My #577 sold for $28k with 21k miles and was in excellent condition but that was 2 years ago.

You can still find plenty of asking prices out there north of $20,000 but the sales.....those that are actually happening for the most part come in lower........often well bellow here in New England.

The 007 cars almost seem certain to rise above the rest as the years go by. I wouldn't know what to offer for a really low mileage clean example right now, if I wanted one, either but right now it seems as if there is no reason to be impatient or pay up.

All of these cars are still less than 10 years old.......they are still falling in
                        value year over year.

Personally the selling prices seem pretty insignificant to me right now as I'm not looking to buy or sell any time soon......for anyone hoping the cars will hold some value as a collectible?

The verdict is still out on that one too.

Newer cars in general, today, aren't going to to be as easy or as cheap to keep running when they truly meet the description, "old cars".

Compared to keeping a car from the 1950s, 60s and 70s running........compairing the expense and degree of complex engineering here is a little like trying to compare two cans and a string to the latest wireless tech that allows you to send voice or data from anywhere to anywhere on the planet.

Makes me wonder how many people will be up to it and will that be enough to support a level of demand in the future that finally puts a floor under prices that could ever justify trying to "save" a Retro-Bird vs just driving it as often as possible without regard to future value at re-sale.

Weather forces me to park our Birds for 4 months out of each year but when the snow melts and the sun shines.........we drive 'em.

I don't spend a fun filled moment worrying about what the future pricing might or might not be.

Fact is.......I should probably go for a ride right now. The sun is shining and here I am thinking about this.

I think the Retro Bird has held it's value very well in these times as compared to say the Lincoln LS of the same year. And I think there will always be a market for these car becuase they are so unque and I think the limited edition models will in time bring a higher price. The highest being the Nieman Marcus becuase of the rarity of them. And with any classic car, the ones in MINT condition and kept original will bring the highest price. Leroy

I agree with Steve that these "newer cars" are going to represent a challenge for restoration in the future. The Cadillac Allante is a good example. Ten years older then our cars they are notoriously expensive and complicated to keep running. Parts are scarce and often hard to find. The entire car is worth much more in parts then as a running driver. Diehard owners keep the flame but check e-bay or allantenet to see our future.

I agree. We need to start thinking about saving old parts, even if they are broke. Maybe in the future they can be repaired? My biggest worry is the computers. How on Earth are we going to repair those instead of getting whole new units?!?
