lol, I didn't catch that part of that news line! Maybe I'll just remove that article from the list!
looks like it was truncated from the original post on their site anyway.

Someone asked me some time ago if I know what may have hapened to the Bird that was sitting up on the roof at Wixom. Have no idea and not sure if it would have been just the shell of a Bird or the complete unit. Anyone on this site know ?

            Re: Wixom Plant sold

I was at Wixom in late 2004 to watch the first Cashmere come off the line and it was quite an interesting experience and there was a lot of fan fair. The Water Wonderland Thunderbird Club was there with examples of Thunderbirds 55 thru 66 which were parked in the plant. They parked the Cashmere in the middle of all the oldies. That is when they announced that Wixom was being closed for good.

Ford sent us home with some nice momentos of the day. Alas, it's over! Ford announced the Thunderbird was going on the shelf at least for now so maybe somewhere down the line they will come up with some other incarnation of the Thunderbird............perhaps a 4 seater if history repeats itself!

I don't recall seeing any Thunderbird on the roof when we were there in 2005 but they did have cars on a display platform near the gate. the cars on that changed but don't know how often.

WE were fortuate to be in two tours that YLO BRD conducted. They are well remembered. In addition to that, they spent the whole day that our 007 was on the line, took tons of pictures for us and sent them to us. We have a picture of a 007 and Lincoln in front of the plant. Tweety and mom to 03 007

Thanks for that picture John: A little hard to make out but the white one looks like a Lincoln. Do you have any idea what the other two were ? Perhaps one of each model that they were producing so one may have been a Bird.

The one on the left looks to be a Torch Red retro Bird.

The dark one is probably an LS.

The one not in the pic was a Yellow Ford GT, it was on the roof above the area they were built. And they were all there in 2005 when we were there. That was a Fun Day, does anybody remember going back in that one room or staging area where all the Ford GT's were built for the Rich and Famous and Movie Stars . Thanks, Rick
