  • Engine Detailing---COPs Problem

Just read in a recent thread (replacing engine compartment decals) that the use of water has an adverse effect on Cops. In the past, I would go to the local spray car wash & spray down engine compartment with "Gunk" spray can then spray with rinse cycle water.
Please advise the method that you use to substitute the Gunk-N-Spray approach.

    Thanks, John V.

    John,
Dry clean is how most of us do it. clean rags, small swiffers, and do it regularly - usually everytime we wash the cars. If you keep on top of it, it's not so hard to do.

Absolutely NO WATER! DO NOT SPRAY WITH PRESSURIZED WATER, ever.

Like Dot suggested wipe it down often.

        Re: Engine Detailing---COPs Problem

        Hi--

Are we talking the whole engine...like the sides by the plugs? All I've ever done is a little Armour all on the top side, mostly on the black plastic covers. Then the Blue T-Bird never sees inclement weather for that matter. Should a gut try to clean down under the side of the engine? If so how do you get in there?

          No Water Period ...

Especially with a pressure wash. You are just asking for COPs failure.

Trust Me: It happened to my 03 Raven TWICE because an unknowing dealer tech thought he was doing me a favor by cleaning the engine.

Most mechanics will reinforce the NO WATER on a Ford engine with cops...doesn't matter which one, you're just asking for trouble.
